I've been in chronic pain for the last six months since I fell (why I fell is still a mystery; I was standing up-right doing high knee exercises). I don't have pain everyday, but some days, like yesterday, I'm not able to straighten my spine or to walk safely. I've had back problems for many years now, with 2 herniated disks, but I was lucky enough to avoid chronic pain until this time around.
But, I got some positive news that my pain will hopefully be under control soon. After going to 4 doctors, I finally found a doctor that seems to care and gave me a useful diagnosis: spondylolisthesis. He's making me do physical therapy. I don't think physical therapy will do much (this is going to be my third time in a year and a half). But at least when/if physical therapy fails, he'll still be focused on getting me better.

Welcome to the community Greg2112! I'm sorry to hear about your spinal pain issues. My first spine trouble began in my 30's and we're pretty manageable. I'm now 57 and have DDD, OA, herniations, and many other spinal problems, including 4 cervical fusion procedures; and the older I get the harder it is to get through it. I've been on a cane for safety reasons several years, although I'm currently on a walker due to hip surgery recovery. I've done lots of PT, which helps strengthen weak muscles for me, but has given me back mobility freedom too. A few years ago I developed foot drop for some unknown reason and it was tripping me up badly.
When you finish PT, try and keep doing the exercises at home as much as possible, to help keep your spine flexible and muscles strong. I'm glad you searched until you found a doctor willing to listen and help! Many of us have had to"shop around" for the right doc. Something I was told to do is start my day with a warm shower and do gentle stretching in the shower, to help loosen my morning stiffness, and it helps me jump start my day.
