Hello! This is my story...

Nov 09, 2015 12:39 AM

I'm new to this site, here is my story:
I had spinal fusion surgery done in July 2012. I had a severe headache when i woke up in hospital. I was elevated when I was supposed to be flat. I left the hospital with a headache. I contacted my doctor several times complaining of headaches in the next 2 weeks. In the 3rd week I blacked out at home falling on concrete and busted my chin open, resulting in 8 stitches. I had another black out 2 weeks later. Went back to same Dr. With this spinal fluid leak and he did 2 more surgeries trying to correct the dura lining he had nicked during the 1st surgery. He failed 3 times and sent me to another Dr. Who performed the surgery correcting the issue and replacing 2 screws from the 1st surgery. The 1st Dr. claims that the hospitals (2) changed the type of glue and that is why the nicked dura lining was not staying sealed when he performed 3 of the 4 surgeries. I had 4 back surgeries in 45 days. I now am suffering physical and mental pain. I've had to quit my job.
I was diagnosed April 2015 with Fibromyalgia. I'm now suffering with pain in my hands and feet. My back is also in pain like before my first back surgery...I'm seeing my doctor for a CT scan on Nov. 17th.

Welcome to the group. This is a warm community who will support you. I have my dreaded insomnia again and can't really put words together now. But someone will chime in soon.

Texasgirl42, I'm chiming in... LOL!! I have not been to bed yet. I have been in pain for 22 years, have over a dozen diseases that cause pain and have had 29 surgeries. I want to welcome you to our community family. We are a tight knit and zany bunch of wonderful people who understand chronic pain and the daily struggles it brings and the ripple effect it has on all those around us. It is a safe place to vent, complain, get information, cry, celebrate. No matter the mood, there will never be any judgements as we "get it" and it's OK to let off steam or whatever you feel you need at the time. I hope that you find being with us helpful and that you settle in and become a regular member of our community. In the meanwhile, I'm sending you gentle {{{Hugs}}} and prayers that you have a peaceful night and a better Monday with less painπŸŒ»πŸ™πŸ»

Welcome TexasGirl42! I'm so sorry to hear of the struggles you've been through. I'm sure it's been emotionally draining. And having to leave your job is a financial burden you hadn't planned.

I totally understand because I had to leave my job in 2010 when I had pelvic surgery to remove a 10 cm mass, which turned into 5 in 1 surgeries, more complications, diagnoses & treatments. I had my first neck fusion in 1992, and after my 2nd fusion in 1995 I've had migraines & cervicogenic headaches. I've developed sjogrens, hypothyroidism & tremors, along with many other dx.

But I try to stay positive rather than letting my health get the best of me. My faith is an important part of coping. I see a pain specialist, because although I have disc issues that need surgery the risk outweighs the benefit and surgeons won't touch me. I also have a psychiatrist for anxiety & depression meds, a psychologist to talk with, a rheumatologist, endocrinologist, and pelvic floor specialists, among others. I have neuropathies pain in my hands and feet, with sciatica. And I'm not so sure my tremors aren't from my neck discs.

Do you have a good team of doctors to help you cope through? It's important to have trustworthy doctors. If in doubt, seek a second or third opinion. You'll find a great group of people for support here. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. (((Hugs))) of comfort. πŸ™πŸŒΌ
