Help???

Jan 25, 2015 7:20 AM

So I have been having headaches for the past 5 months nonstop. They were powerful and painful and I went to the doctor that first month but they couldn't find anything. So for 4 months I had to deal with headaches. At the start of January, but neck became stiff and couldn't move it and I was becoming very weak and sick and to top it all off, I was having pain on my left leg. It gotten to bad I couldn't even walk on it. So I went to the doctors and they said it might be meningitis so on the 10th of January i went to the hospital but they said it wasn't and I was diagnosed with migraines and I was put on a IV and it stopped my headaches a little bit but that same day I was having back pains. Each day was getting harder and harder to move. I had to have help getting in and out of bed walking around all of it and I can't walk on my own so I walk with a crutch and I literally drag by leg when I walk. So I went back and they did a X-ray and they said I might have strained my back but they told my dad I might have inflammation in my spinal cord. So when I sleep I'm really stiff I don't move around because it hurts. I tried putting ice and heat on my back. I take the medications they gave me everyday but nothing is helping Idk what to do help???

Have you tried any massage or acupuncture? It may be helpful. I just try out lots of things to help me out with my pain.

Taeya15, I think you need to go back to the dr. Inflammation of the spine sounds dangerous. I think you should insist on either a more thorough work up or referral to a neurologist or orthopedic who specializes on the back. If you haven't had a direct injury to your back recently to cause your symptoms then you need to find out what is going on as your symptoms sound pretty severe to me. Keep us posted.

Also wondering what they gave you for meds?

Hi sandibeach and yes I am on three strong medications naproxen, Xanax, and some other mixture of medication. I tried everything over the counter medication, including aspirin, Advil, Tylenol, and muscle relaxers because when I went they thought it was muscle strain so my dad is making me wait to see if the pain gets any better but so far nothing is helping this has been going on for more than 3 weeks now. My dad is suppose to take me back so I can get referred but everyday is getting harder for me and I can't take the pain anymore.

Hmmmm. Can you tell your dad that you need to make an appointment as soon as possible because you are not responding to the medications that you were given and that you are in fact worse and that it terrifies you? Maybe you can offer to call and make the appointment if your dad is too busy during the day to call.....In the mean time, have you tried ice or heat for some relief? But I feel strongly that you should see add ASAP. I have kids and if you were mine, I would bring you in tomorrow to whomever I could get an appointment with. Good luck!

Hi Taeya15, I'm so sorry you're not getting the care you need. I've said a prayer for you. You said they told your dad you might have inflammation in the spinal cord. If that's a possibility then you should be seeing either a neurologist or orthopedist.

Also, you said your headaches improved after the IV. That could have meant you were dehydrated. Headaches are a symptom of dehydration, so be sure to stay hydrated with water. I have migraines too, and if I'm so sick I'm vomiting, it does make the headaches worse because its harder to consume anything. Popsicles are easier to get in you when nauseated, or jello.

Has anyone run blood test for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis? It sounds to me like you could use a good caring doctor who will check into all possible issues. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thank you so much I really appreciate it and we have been trying to get referred because my symptoms and pains keeps getting worser. I have morning stiffness when I wake up and idk what type of blood tests they did but all I know is they took my blood my dad hasn't told me anything else.
