Help! Burning shooting pain from back to legs

Mar 28, 2016 10:31 PM

My story is way too long, and I deal with chronic pain due from a car accident. But tonight, and still currently now, I'm having this burning shooting pain covering from the middle of my lower back to my right side, shooting and covering my whole right hip, them continuing down to the front of my right thigh, knee and lower leg. I can feel like a straight burning line running through my knee. My foot is burning and feels like it is swelling and looks like it (could be illusions) I felt like it paralyzed my right side of my body. My husband tried for over thirty mins trying to situate me through my tears and all.. While at the moment, we found the best spot possible, I'm still in extreme pain and this shooting burning pain will not go away and I'm so uncomfortable. I've taken my meds, but those can only work so much.

What's going on with me? Thanks

It sounds like siatic nerve pain

I would seek a doctors care if this is different from what you've experienced before. I'm so sorry you are hurting like this.

That's exactly what I was going to say as well. That happens to me from my pelvic floor dysfunction. My recommendation would be to use heat and massage where the pain is. Sometimes I use a tennis ball or a stress ball rather than my hands.

Thalia. I have the heating pad going and I will use my stress ball. Y'all are awesome and thanks so much for y'alls help!

Hope it eases up soon.

Thank you so much. I can't deal with this. This is one of the many kinds of pain I deal with daily. Though what I'm going through now happens every once in awhile

I hope you find relief soon! It is so hard with chronic pain. In the middle you feel like it'll never ease up. Take it one minute at a time and hopefully it will ease, even if just enough to sleep.

Hey I had fallen asleep sms slept about an hour before waking up and crying in pain again. The burning is affecting me bad. My lower leg is burning on fire worse than my back and hip. I've finally have calmed down from crying and finally found a comfort spot (pillows every where propping different parts of my body) I don't want to go to the emergency room... But thIs is definitely sciatica nerve pain. It's so bad inflamed, burning. So sorry to go on and on, this has been really hard to deal with. I hate it, but I had to take more of my meds (pain and neurontin and muscle relaxer) which none of it is really helping!

I tried the massaging technique with my massage ball, just nothing is working. I even cried and called my mama lol... She deals with all different kinds of chronic pain, including what I'm going through right now. She basically said that there is nothing that can be done, other than what y'all have said and my meds. And time... Hopefully it will go away. The sooner the better

This is my first time on this app. I never knew there was a pain diary app. A great tool to show my pain doctor so he can know what I go through each month...

This is great community. It's really nice to have others to talk to and help that go through the same things. Because no one else, besides my mom, gets it and thinks I'm just a depressed crybaby screaming in pain a lot..

My auto correct is the worse! Lol

My Mother has really bad sciatica and the best thing that helped her was a chiropractor. Also an experienced physical therapist can give you some great tips for stretching and strengthening.

It's si bad, I had to go to emergency room. They gave me two shots, one being steroids that should hopefully help. I deal with sciatica often but doggone it has never been this bad and that's why I didn't know if it was for sure sciatica. But that's what they said it was, I just had a bad flare up. So I need to wait for my doctor to get back from his vacation next week and check my discs and such

I can not do therapy like that, I was in a bad car wreck and messed up my body bad! So I'm disabled and can only do so much activity but I got to find ways. I'm going to talk more to my doctor to see.

I'm glad you had it looked at. Hope the meds bring you some relief until you can see your doc.

Thank you. Thank you for being so sweet and caring!

How are you doing today?

Hi, I have multiple conditions joints and muscle tissue especially, Anyway I have been in the same or similar situation and one thing that works for me is A pillow or 2 under my legs above my knees, and if u have knee socks take a pair run them through a very cold tap wring them out and put them on. I have used husbands socks. You will get some relief although you may have to do it 3 times. But do try the socks and as they watm up cos of inflammation wet them again. GOOD LUCK ,It sounds crazy but it does help.

Sounds like siatica pain to me also.
I had the same problem. Pain burns so bad makes you scream.
I ended up on hydorcodone, tramidol, and gabipentin for mine.
The gabipentin seems to really work good on the pain shooting down the hip and leg.
Even though the pain is returning now after being on gabipentin for 2 years.
It did give relief for a long time.
Mri would help your doc determine where the pain is originating.
Most likely you have a bad disk or two in your back, it becomes irriatated and inflamed and presses on the nerve that runs down you hip and leg.
Good luck and keep us posted on doc results.
Love and prayers

Sciatica. I've had it since the 90's following a car accident & a fall. Epidural steroid injections worked very well for me (2012-2014). I'm just beginning to have them again, over the last 4-5+ months. Hugs & prayers you can get relief soon! 🙂💕🙏🌼

It is probably worse now because something in yoyr spine has moved. Make sure to get a good xray series done on your lumbar area. I had no sciatic pain or other symptoms except pain from heavy activity until my feet went numb and tingly. L4 has shifted forward over L5 by 10 cm! And the disc has completely disappeared, leaving it bone on bone. Well there's my problem! The VA wanted to only give me pt exams, maybe some cortisone. Thankfully my medicare doc says let's fix this!

I have sciatic pain with the DDD & scoliosis. It is the most horrific pain I have ever had with all the stuff that accompanies bad arthritis. I have to say I do not believe I could stand anyone touching me while I am in so much pain. I get extremely nauseated & sweat so bad that even my clothing is wet. I have never had anyone try to move me, but I feel sure it would make me scream. Sounds like the only thing to do was ER. I truly deeply wish you some relief.
