Well, if you have the true flu, the influenza. The only thing they can do is treat the symptoms. If you started to get sick on Monday, it probably be a waste of time to give you an antiviral drug since you will be almost over the flu soon. Going to a regular doctor during the weekday or an e.r on the weekends only can serve two purposes. One and the most important, is that your condition becomes such that you need care in a hospital because you cannot be managed at home. You are in need of oxygen and meds and fluids. If that is not the case. The second reason, is that you need a doctor on the weekend to prescribe you a prescription medication compared to an over the counter medication.
I had the true flu one year. I call it that because many people say they have the flu. But the flu is really when you are diagnosed by test or you either have influenza A or B. When you get them, many times depending on the condition of your body, you feel like you are going to die. Sometimes the healthier you are, the worse it is for you because your body is fighting more and that is what is causing your symptoms. Here are a few things you can do though if you are having any of these symptoms and it will help if you haven't been told: If your phlegm is thick which is causing you to feel like you have a thickness in your throat or that you feel like you are going to choke in between coughs or because of a sore throat, use some mucinex. It is a pill that you drink with lots of fluid, mostly water. Drink lots of water. The more you push the water, the faster you speed up your metabolism. The faster you make the virus runs its course and dies. Don't search out for a doctor to give you antibiotics unless you think your diagnosis is wrong. If it is the flu, antibiotics will slow the flu down. Usually with young adults, they say no aspirin or ibuprofen, just tylenol. They worry about reyes syndrome. But I don't know if they still worry about they ibuprofen anymore. If you don't like plain water, they have these water flavorings at the store called Mio. They are great. They also have electrolytes in them which would help with all the fluids I imagine you would be losing with sneezing and such. Those are just a few things I know. I just know fluids are key to making this thing speed up and giving you some relief. If someone could make homemade chicken soup. That would be awesome. It is an a natural antibiotic which would help keep you from getting infected and it wouldn't slow down the virus. It has been known to do the opposite. Hot tea is real good. I prefer like an earl grey something like that. But they say that the green teas are natural antivirals. On the supplement side, zinc and echinacea. Hope some of this information helps. I put a little research into it.
One other option is Tonic water. It helps rehydrate, and seems to lessen the pain slightly. If I get a cold/flu, I usually don't go to the doc. If it lasts 2 solid weeks, then I go to Urgent care. Half the time they just tell me to rest and hope it passes soon, the other times it progresses to more serious sinus infections and I get antibiotics. I also tend to get a strange smell in my nose, and Throat Coat is one of the only things I can drink during a flu. Good luck getting past it.
Khloeithia, I had the flu in high school about 10 days. I was told to stay hydrated and rest. If you have a cough that worse then you could be going into bronchitis of pneumonia. Try some Delsym cough syrup a few days but if it's no better go are your doctor before the weekend. Bronchitis makes your chest and throat hurt. (((Hugs))) & prayer you'll feel better soon. 🙏🌼
