How can I ease shooting pains?

Dec 02, 2019 4:29 PM

My question is what is the fastest way to help ease shooting pains?

I’ve got fibromyalgia and, for the last month or so, I’ve been getting bad shooting pains in my arms and get a pain down my chest when I breathe in. This happens mostly at night or if I’m somewhere too warm (it’s winter here so a lot of places have their heating on too high).

I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion (self-diagnosed) that it’s costochondritis (i.e. inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs).

I take co-codamol and use hot water bottles a lot which help to an extent. But right now, nothing is helping.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks Shore, I appreciate it! All the best for Thursday. I found things were a bit easier once I had a diagnosis and at least knew what I was dealing with ❤️

Hey behar, I have fibromyalgia and spine-related neuropathy. I take extra gabapentin when I have increased neuropathy symptoms. But I also take a muscle relaxer at bedtime, to relax the muscles that clamp around the nerves (always worse at night). I've had episodes of the costochondritis and I've always been put on a steroid pack during those flare ups. I'm not sure if a muscle relaxer or steroid will be helpful to you but it couldn't hurt to try. Talk to your doctor about it. Non-medicinally, try warm heat &/or ice packs to see if either one helps. Hugs love & prayers you can get better relief soon! 🙂💞❤🙏🌷

Hi FlappysLady81,

I’m so sorry I missed your reply! Thanks for this. I’ll speak to my doctor about this next time. Warm heat pads + a hot water bottle eventually helped 👍

Fortunately those shooting pains have eased off for the most part now. I got the flu right after my first message and I guess that helped with taking my mind off that pain. So a silver lining... kind of? 🤷🏻‍♀️😄
