How do YOU Deal with Cruel People

Jun 08, 2018 11:36 PM

Two days ago I experienced co-workers being insensitive and cruel to a fellow pain sufferer, and I got pissed beyond my limit , I work in a business environment that from time to time requires strenuous lifting, bending and emptying a really heavy mail bin. The lady came out on the Data processing floor almost in tears because she said both of her arms were in pain, the other workers made jokes, ridiculed her and even a mockery of what some of us noticed was causing her great pain. I understanding what she must of felt offered to help by offering her assistance , but as others laughed my 1st instinct was to call them simple minded &$@#. Because I didn’t find it funny , when another worker notice how my eyes were watering up and how upset I was getting he told me would handle it because he see I was about to get really mad. My question is how do any of you pain sufferers handle insensitive , friends , relatives or acquaintances ??????

You could try explaining the spoon theory. If you are not familiar with it check it out on google. I have found it very helpful.

Be careful what u say to work. Only speak to your supervisor, if trusted...

RobynG, during the childish behavior in my workplace my Supervisor entered the production floor , and because she has been suffering from arthritis of her shoulders, and wrist plus a Cancer survivor herself she became upset when I asked her if this is what our work place has become. She told everyone that was participating in the laughFest
It was a highly immature move when most of them has never spent much time as the more experienced and older people have doing the more strenuous lifting and toting as I did or the lady in pain had just done

It’s sad to say I’ve been hurt to think part of my pain suffering now was a result of me an older woman over 50 desperate to return to work after unemployment for over 6 years and because of my experience was forced to lift about a 25-60 lb trash bin with a already onset of back Problems for 8-10 hrs when I was only suppose to be a 4 hr part time worker, while the 30-35 year old men and women with just desk sitting data processing skills sat at their desk making fun of my back pain my first year. I was diagnosed exactly 1 1/2 years later with now a life changing condition
