How does the weather affect your symptoms?

May 15, 2016 11:36 PM

I was wondering how hot and cold weather affects people's symptoms. In my case, I live in the UK so the weather is not very hot very often. My problems become worse when I go to visit my sister in Texas. The extreme heat causes all my symptoms to flare and swelling and pain are probably three times worse than normal. I often end up in the ER as soon as I get back to the UK because the swelling is so bad. It is not like I can not go visit my sister as I only see her once a year. I am heading to Texas, two weeks today and am already dreading my symptoms as soon as I hit the heat. Suncream and painkillers do not help. I am always covered up so I don't get sunburnt as last time I burnt that was a trip to the ER. How do people cope with their symptoms living in a hot country?

I live in Texas, but I have more problems with flare ups when it's cold or when the weather changes. I also have problems when I sit for long periods of time. Although, its painful to walk or swim it's also beneficial for me.

Live in Wisconsin cold and changes hurt me. Love the hot and dry. Maybe Sister could come over to see you?

You're right, suncream and painkillers do not help. Heat knocks me out so that I cannot function at all. I have a cooling vest, hat and cooling neck scarf. Something in them activates with water. That does not make it comfortable or advisable (for me anyway) to get overheated but it helps a bit, for a short time.

It seems to me that my symptoms are effected most by changes in the weather, rather than the actual temperatures. I live on the coast of Washington state where there are frequent changes and these days are the worst.
