How to use the "mood" scale

Mar 20, 2016 12:23 PM

Hi Folks. I'm new to the app. Wondering if you use the mood indicator to (a) indicate how the pain caused you to feel, or (b) how you were already feeling when the pain struck. In other words, is the app trying to see if pain makes you consistently unhappy, or rather whether sadness causes pain? Hope the question is clearly stated. Thanks!

Good question. I've been using it both ways. In other words, how I'm feeling as I'm filling out the pain scale. It has helped me know for sure that worse pain = worse depression.

Hello Plushpup68, welcome. I have only been using this for about a month. I am not consistent with using the mood indicator but I guess I should do a better job.

I dont think the app is trying to figure anything, like the pain scale it is your interpretation. Use it how it makes the most sense to you. I have anxiety, ptsd, depression that plays on my moods before even getting to the pain side of it. I use it as a general mood. I try to only use 1 entry a week and write things in the notes because you can't print your entire entries out of this app which is completely frustrating.

I generally make an entry when I first wake, so my mood is generally "meh". Someone looking at me would say I am at least a little smiley, and I am sometimes, but don't we generally tend to mask our worst pain? Those darned smiley face pain scales and 1 to 10 things.. my 4 could be your 7 - or your 2!

So I just stay middling, unless I'm making a special entry for higher pain.

Welcome Plushpup68! When I'm making an entry I base my mood on how I've felt since the last entry. Highest pain days seem to cause worsened mood, but to consider my day a bad day the pain/mood must be at the max worst. I hope you are able to learn a lot and gain needed support through the community. Hugs & prayers you have more good days than bad! 🙂💕🙏🌼
