Hurricane Matthew

Oct 05, 2016 2:32 PM

I am not sure where everyone is at, but know I am praying for your safety as I am my parent's, Friend's and Family in the path of Hurricane Matthew. He is to hit parts of coastal and inland Florida tomorrow and Friday and parts of North Carolina on Saturday. Please be safe and prepared! If this is your first time going through this here are some helpful tips

1. Make sure you have plenty of batteries and your cell phones are charged any any back up portable charger's are charged up.

2. Plenty of water! Cannot stress enough how important it is to have plenty of water on hand! If you have to fill up tubs or sinks then do it ( had to do that one year when a hurricane Charlie came around) .

3. Board up all windows and move everything inside the garage that could be used as projectile by a tornado or very strong wind's.

4.make sure you gas up your cars, generators and chainsaws now, because some or all gas pumps will not work afterwards.

5. Make sure you have enough cash on hand as well because some ATMs won't work either.

6. If you have a small baby or child make sure you have enough diapers, wipes, and non perishable formula and non perishable food for everyone.

7. If going to a shelter and you have animals make sure you have a place for your animals to go to, also bring plenty of games for the kids and make sure you have all your important papers in a plastic baggie so if it gets wet they won't get ruined (like birth certificate and ss cards and shot records) move important things in your house out of a flood area that you don't want ruined.

8. If evacuating, plan your route ahead of time.

Also make sure you have plenty of your medication. As a home health nurse we always helped our patients put together an emergency box. In it your medical information. ( I had a typed up list of my doctors, my diagnosis, my medications and emergency call number. Also your pharmacy info and insurance info. If there are allergies that needs to be listed too. On mine I also included my living will wishes. Not only is it helpful in emergencies but when seeing new doctors as well). When storms were predicted we made sure our patients had at least a weeks worth if meds - preferably 2 weeks) We also had them pack things like comfort items. If diabetic - crackers etc. in case it's needed. Am sure I am forgetting some things. Maybe house insurance info or things like that. The medication really is important though. :)

Thanks Mimikay, yes forgot about the medication part. I had so many things running through my head lol! It's been 4 years since I had to go through a hurricane. But I will NEVER FORGET the 2004 hurricane season!

My family are all in Kingston πŸ‡―πŸ‡², they are all physically ok but now, the task of rebuilding their communities begins

Sjogrens and mimi, thank you for the reminder. With the way it looks now, it's not supposed to hit Delaware, but they have been wrong before. I've already gotten stocked up on meds, but completely forgot about doing the medical information. Me and my scatter brained self. Again, thanks for the reminders.

Oh JAHMAC, I am glad your family is safe! I'll be praying for their community and the long road ahead of having to rebuild.

Amanda, anytime I lived in Florida for 22 year's so preparing for a Hurricane is second nature to me.

Sjogrens, the last vivid memory I have of a hurricane actually hitting Delaware and I know this was a LONG time ago, but it was when Hurricane Gloria made an appearance and with that it's only broken memories.

I'm in high pain flair because I am stressed about this Hurricane hitting Florida and I found out last night that my brother who is a tow truck operator has to work midnight's tonight! I am worried about his safety, as he will be out in the path of the storm in the elements. ( His office is 2 hours from home and he works the coastal area) . Please pray if you pray, send good vibes or karma. I have to go to my Son's football game tonight so maybe that will be a distraction for a little while.

For those who haven't seen this, NASA took this photo 2 days ago of the hurricane. They've now evacuated multiple GA coast & inland countries. My dad's & stepmother's farm is on the inner edge of counties to be effected at this time. I-16 eastbound has been shutdown to Dublin and most hotels in my area (central GA) are already filled with FL, GA & SC evacuees. I'm praying it does an easy-northeast turn and stays off the coastlines, and that it doesn't loop back around. Everyone stay safe! Hugs love and prayers for all! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΈ

I am watching the weather channel, and praying for you all & families to be spared. So many people to move out of harms way. It will be as long night.

Just got off the phone with my mom, so far it's just heavy rain, the worst is supposed to move in around midnight tonight. My mom and sisters are going to call me and check in with me to assure me that they are okay and my younger sister is going to text my brother all throughout the night the next few days to make sure that he is okay. My parents and sister's county has a curfew until Saturday morning until the storm passes. I won't be getting much sleep if any at all.

I am sending good karma, positive vibes and good thoughts to all who are in the path of this hurricane. Please make sure you have your emergency storm kit and all your meds, blankets, battieries? Flashlight, canned goods, plenty of water, etc... you will all be in my thoughts and I hope that as the storm passes everyone checks in to let us know you're ok. {{{{Hugs}}}}πŸ’•πŸ˜Š

Sorry I haven't been on today, been keeping touch with as much as my family and friends in Florida as possible today. Thankfully they are all safe including my brother! Praise God!
My Aunt and cousins that live on the coastal area got hit pretty hard, they are all without power as to be expected, and a majority of them are blocked into the neighborhood by downed trees and my other cousin had downed tree's in their front yard and one on tree fell on the corner of thier home.(trailer) thankfully it doesn't look to be any major damage to the roof, will have to wait for a roofer to give the estimate.

I hope and pray that everyone has made it through the Hurricane safely, check in when you can just to say I'm okay and still hereπŸ˜‰
