I hate pain

Jul 23, 2016 10:40 PM

Hi. Got nerve pain in neck where muscles are in spasam around the nerves in neck. I'm on pregablin, the bulk of the pain is taken away but I get breakthrough pain when something is done to set it off. I literally have to do nothing to get no breakthrough pain. But I live alone an doing nothing is not easy. I'm waiting for steroid injections to see if that helps. Fingers crossed it helps. Or I don't know how much more I can take. When I get the pain I end up taking 15mg of diazepam an 150mg Tramadol but then I'm awake all night. Can anyone suggest alternative painkillers when it's bad?

Have you tried alternatives to get the muscles that are causing the problem to calm down? I started taking magnesium malate and potassium and my muscle cramps and spasms have reduced. Check with the doctor before starting supplements. I also get massages, go to physiotherapy, and get acupuncture for it. Stretching, strengthening the shoulders and back, and a tens machine help. With the tens i find laying down with the pads where skull meets spine most helpful.

Tens machine an acupuncture and physio I'm doing all the time well the last 5-6 months + it's making no difference. But I'll speak to my GP about the supplements, thanks. I find heat takes the pain away while its applied but soon as its taken away the pain comes back 😞

All those treatments are just temporary, that's all any of it is. But a bit of temporary relief is better than none.
I would recommend seeing a naturopath if you can. It's worth it. Mine found food intolerances as well as put me on some supplements the doctor told me it would be a waste of money to take because my blood tests came back normal, and those supplements helped a lot. Eliminating my problem foods helped the most. I take robaxin (muscle relaxant) and advil both as needed after removing problem foods. It's hard but worth a try

It took over a year of doing regular massage and physiotherapy to start noticing that it was working. That was 6 years ago and i still go regularly. Keep it up

I've had this problem since 2008 or 2009 due to a car accident. In 2012 I had a nerve block from C3-5 that gave me pain relief for two an a half years. But as I was pain free I ended up putting a new kitchen in and doing more DIY an learnt to scuba dive. Stupid I know now but didn't know it was temporary or I would not have done it. Nearly committed suicideat beginning or year pain was that bad.

Nerve pain is so awful to deal with. I understand and hate for you. I've tried everything. I've really had best results from physical therapy, message therapy and meditation. But honestly, I've been so bad lately that its nearly pushed over the edge. I don't even care what I have to take or do to get relief. And I'm way past caring what anyone thinks about my meds now. I've had so many people tell me I'd better be careful of this or that. From now on I will just politely remind them that I'm doing what I have to to feel I can have just a piece of my life back.

I got fed up with it and put a Voltarol in my bum lol it has diclofenac sodium. It lasts for 16 hours. In stead of popping pills every few hours. But I'm still taking my normal nerve pills. It helps me which is good it takes the bulk away an I can deal with the last bit of pain. I had a lot o broken sleep. X hope your ok.

Oh that's too funny!! And I thought I had to be the only one who had nerve pain on their "bum"! I have resorted to lidocain patches!! I'm always afraid that sucker will slip and be hanging out the back of my pants!!

No sorry lol I have nerve pain in my neck but the strong pain killers go in my bum as it gets into my system quicker. I have a abscessed on my butt now that hurt an it had to be operated on an packed every day. I would not wish that on anyone. My pain I from a car accident 9 years ago. Grrr

Strangebum2016, I had a post of suggestions and just as I went to hit the post button my tablet completely restarted...omg! With fibro fog & now frustration, I can't remember it all. I will just say that at the suggestion of the community I started doing relaxation to keep my muscles from tensing up & spasming (back spasms since 91, multiple auto accidents). I also take magnesium supplements and it does help. Tramadol doesn't really help my spine pain, but it's ok for fibro flares. I take Chlorzoxazone for muscle spasms. I had ESI's all down my spine from 2012-2014 and it helped a lot. But I'm having sciatica on & off again, and I'm scheduled for C3 diskectomy in 2 weeks because the disc is pressing my spinal cord. Have you had recent x-rays or an MRI to see if there are changes? Hugs love & prayers you get good relief from the injx! 🙂💕🙏🌸

I also have bad tg.. which mirrors your symptoms.. i get carbamazapine for that. Which does work.. other than that and simply, have you tried hot and cold? I use wheat bags one from freezer and one from microvave.. keep swapping them.. Gx

Jul 27, 2016 8:47 AM

Yes I often use hot and cold when it's really bad an my tens machine. But soon as its off or comes away pain is back. I'm seeing my own doc next week an will speak to him about the supplements. I wish I had brought one bum tablet to work as it wore off about lunch as I took it last night. 15 min left of work an can't be bothered lol. I have burnt my shoulders with my hot water bottle as I like it really hot then it just numms everything.
