Ok my aunt is going to he going in for a couple procedures on the 16th to see if she has to have 2 heart valves replaced. I am going to be at the hospital all day, Anyone have any ideas on how I can stay somewhat comfortable in the waiting room? Her procedures are a day after my back procedure.
Moparmom, first and foremost I'll be praying for you and your aunt. A coccyx pillow to sit on could help with tailbone pressure. Maybe take a cooler for ice packs, or buy those you shake or break to activate. Do you have a TENS unit? If not, buy some of those otc patches at the drug stores. If nothing else take pillows to sit on and against. Gentle stretches if you're standing or sitting too long. I hope this helps! 🙏🌼
MoparMom, Yes, I do have some suggestions. 1) Bring a pillow with you (or more). It doesn't matter what you look like having them with you, your comfort does. 2) If she is being admitted, and they have her room ready, ask if you can go to her room and put your feet up. (That will also give you the opportunity to get the tv turned on). You can hang out there and have them text you when she's in recovery and then you can go there and sit with her. 3). Bring a pain pill with you. The surgery (waiting to go in, the actual procedure and being in recovery will be a while). Take the pill right when she goes in and by the time she is done, it will have worn off for the most par. 4) Bring a book or music with you to distract you while you wait. Sometimes just having something you love to listen to can help you get to a peaceful place and relax you). 6) Get up and walk as much as you can. Take breaks and get up to keep your back from stiffening up while you wait. Also make sure you are hydrated and being something to snack on. (The hospital cafeteria is too expensive and you can just as easily pack some nutritious snacks that you can munch at your leisure) 7) Let the nurses know you just had a back procedure. They may let you stay in the waiting area where her gourney is waiting for her and let you lay down. (Asking if you can go to her room is a better idea though as you can prepare it for her comfort and be a bit more comfortable yourself. 8) if you have one, use a TENS Unit. That should help you take the pain way down and help you get through the day.
I hope that these suggestions offered you SOME help and that you try them out. I did many when I took my Dad for his knee replacement and my Mom stayed at home. I got to go to his room and sit in the chair next to his bed, (which just so happened that it was a recliner!! Your Pillows, feet up and a snooze). You'll both be in my prayers that your surgeries are successful and that you are able to get through the day with minimal pain. One thing I forgot to mention.. Breathing exercises, meditation, or if there's a nice stranger that seems receptive, make conversation. Nothing deep, just small talk). Best of luck to you both for speedy and complete recovery. 💕🙏🏻🌻
Thank You Flappys and Alwayz! I have to pack her a hospital bag so when I pack hers I will be packing one myself as I stay at the hospital with her and I will be packing the tens unit and a about 4 pillows and a phone charger because all my music is on my phone. I will be packing the hospital bag's today because this weekend my housework has to get done sine I'm going to be down and gone for a while. Thank You again Flappys and Alwayz! I pray your day's are pain free as much as possible! Moparmom
I'm not sure what is at the root. I slept fitfully, waking four times. Got up and my vertigo hit. I barely had the energy to dry my hair. It's either a flare or URI starting. I hope everyone has a good Saturday! 🙏🌼
I hate that any of us have to live with chronic pain and non the less have people think we are crazy or just plain lazy or faking it or our own Doctor's don't Care to take the time to listen to us. Ok rant over.. I hope and pray that you both get a better night's rest and Flappys I pray that your flair up ends soon. Moparmom
Weezie, I'm glad you're back! You've been missed. 🙆 I hope all is well with the family. I went to a shower today, even though I wanted to stay home. My whole pelvic & though region is hurting from the chairs, but I took meds and rubbed voltaren in. I think I am in a flare because I've got multiple tender places everywhere, it hurts with barely any pressure. Hopefully it will be short lived. Hugs to all, and prayers for a lease painful night to all! 🙏🌼
Well had my back procedure a day earlier than I though I would. It hurt like heck and I'm hurting more today then ever! As far as my Aunt's procedure it's looking like its going to be cancelled because she caught my daughter's strep throat.
Moparmom, I'm so sorry you are in so much pain. And I'm sorry your aunt got sick, but that is probably a blessing in disguise, given your pain level. At least this way you can get more rest before her surgery. Hugs & prayers! 🙏🌼
I don't know if you have access to it but something that has helped me is Lidocaine patches. They have brought relief to me in pain sites when I needed help. I use them all the time. They are very effective for me. They are good for pain sites that go in about an 1 inch. Deeper would not work.
Thank You Flappys and Profiler! Yes it is a blessing in disguise for sure because my son and I are both sick now from what my daughter had and gave to my Aunt, so yesterday and today is rest and relaxation!
Ok, finally made it to the day of her procedures and we are waiting in her recovery room and since my back is more messed up then before the put a recliner chair in the room for me to sit in and be comfortable while we wait. I have my snack and my drink and my phone and laptop to keep me busy, thank you all for the ideas! Oh and when then we got my aunt to the front of the hospital we put her in a wheelchair and I put everything elese on her rolaider walker and pushed it to the room! 😉 you all are awesome! Please keep my aunt in your prayers and my cousin Jesse too as he ships off to Iraq tomorrow until may! He will miss the birth if his baby boy! 😢
