Idk what to do Anymore

Mar 07, 2015 4:39 PM

Hi I am 15 years old been experiencing severe lower back pain for 3 months right now. It has gotten so bad I have to be on a crutch. I have weakness/numbness and tingly on my left leg and it's hard for me to walk around and I have been very tired and sick lately. I urinate more than usual and I can't barely walk on my left leg. The pain goes from my lower back all the way down my leg. The pain wakes me up and night so I can't get sleep even if I try. I went to my doctor and my blood pressure was higher than it was suppose to be for my age so she referred me to a neurologist. So when I went I thought he was suppose to do a examine on my back and all the physical examines but he didn't all he did was test my reflexes. That's literally all he did and He ordered a MRI on me and he couldn't find anything. I was so surprised he did two on me one last week and one a couple days ago and still nothing. Idk what to do anymore. I get worse by the day and I can't do the stuff I used to anymore. I am very sick and in pain. It felt like he really didn't do anything and I am so tired I just wanna find out what's wrong. Help please?

Taeya15 Sugar I'm so sorry that you are having to go thru this at your age. I know how frustrating it is not to be able to find out what's going on. When the Neurologist ordered the MRI did he order contrasts when he ordered the MRI. Sometimes they can't see if there's something wrong without the contrast. It took them 3 years before they saw the Syrinx in my spine without contrast. They always do two one without and one with contrast. Did they give you any pain meds to take. Have you tried moist heat, sometimes it helps a little bit. You can make a heat pack,it's easy take two wash cloths sew three sides the fourth side pour rice and sew up. Put in microwave and heat for three min. Place against hurting hip tuck it up and under close and cover up. It stays warm for a couple of hrs the moist heat helps a little bit. Talk to your Dr to see if you can take melatonin it helps me fall asleep but if I wake up I don't always go back to sleep. Don't give up. I'm sending you a hug and prayers to you. Keep us in the loop on how you are doing .

What part of your body did they do the mri on? Maybe they were looking in the wrong place... From what you are describing your pain is very similar to some of mine. I have herniated discs in my lower back and pinched nerves. If you are not getting the relief or treatment you need from your doctor go back or seek another opinion. Don't give up and always advocate for yourself! Heat always seems to help my pain. I use rice in a tube sock with a knot in the end. Microwave for about 1 1/2 mins. Some people prefer ice, or you can alternate. I also use melatonin to help me sleep at night. It is very inexpensive and can be found at any drug store over the counter. Talk to your doctor first of course. I hope you get some answers soon and find some relief! Gentle hugs! 🌸

Taeya15, first, welcome to the group. I'm so sorry you're experiencing so much pain and so many problems at such a young age. You need to keep a journal of your daily activities and pain levels during that time. This will help you nail down where you're hurting the most and which activities make you feel worse. If you feel this doctor is not listening to you, you may need to find nother one. Depending on what this doctor is looking for, he may get normal results. After that, I stood in front of him and showed him the problem and got one of my diagnosis. Don't give up, don't let a doctor brush you off and most inportantly, be proactive in your own care. Best of luck to you

Thank y'all so much and I did try ice and heat on my lower back but nothing seems to help. The only relieve I get is if I just sleep. It sucks a lot that the doctor isn't listening to me. My older sister wants me to see someone else about my pain and my dad seems like he is getting worried now because I am always laying down and just sick. Well they did a MRI on my head, neck, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Everything came back normal. But I was going to just give up but y'all gave me hope and I will just keep trying.

Taeya15 have you ever seen a chiropractor before? I see a chiropractor to help manage my pain. Especially when I can't walk or I have a pinched nerve. When I have leg pain I use icyhot or MaxFreeze. For muscle pain and inflammation I use Formula 303, magnesium, calcium, and tuna omega 3 fish oil. I hope you can find something that will relieve the pain and that the doctors will figure out what's wrong. I'm also currently looking for some kind of diagnosis. It's very frustrating but we can get through this. 😊

Taeya15, I'm sorry you as hurting. Nomi182 may be on to something it hit being muscles. If your not under an orthopedist you should be. Go where they also have physical therapy (PT) available. Years ago I had an auto accident and I hurt for the longest time from my back to my toes. The orthopedist gave me something to relax the muscles & something to reduce inflammation, and sent me to PT. The therapist explained how the nerves run in & out through the muscles from the back. When there is inflammation and muscle spasms it causes the muscles to squeeze tight around the nerves, hence the pain from start to end of the nerve path. Also if you have a bladder or kidney infection it can cause some back pain.Drink lots of water and cranberry juice to flush your urinary tract. If you're still bothered with going too often or burning or pain see your primary doctor or a urologist. I'll be praying for you.🙏🌼
