Insults from doctors make for a bad day

Sep 20, 2016 5:23 PM

Went to see a doctor today and while she helped by getting me into a pain management clinic she also was fairly rude. Basically the reason for all of my pain is my weight. There's no other cause. Daily headaches, constant back pain, swollen joints, frequent abdominal pain, etc is all caused by my weight. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to get help from a pain management clinic but to be lectured on my weight for nearly 15 minutes by a doctor who talks better than she listens kind of kills all confidence.

Unfortunately I can't. This doctor is the only one in the area who takes my insurance.

How unkind and unrealistic to think that is the weight is the root of your pain .. nasty Dr ... Good news that maybe the pain clinic may give you some relief so you can enjoy moving about ... I'm sorry to hear that you were so mistreated.... 😒

LittleMilkFlower, I've had MANY doctors blame all my problems on my weight. I looked at one and said, "Really?? You mean the fact that my shoulder has physically rotted away my joints are degenerating (my hips are the only thing that doesn't hurt), is ALL due to my weight?? Let me ask you, if someone is too skinny do you tell them their problems are from their lack of weight and tell them to gain it?? Are you saying only fat people get these diseases?" He put his head down, typed some notes into the computer in my chart and said have a good day. You just have to stand up for yourself is all. I know it's easier said than done, but you gotta just do it. {{{Hugs}}}

LittleMilkflower, I completely relate and so do many others. Several of us have heard the "you're overweight! Do you know how much would improve if you'd just lose weight" speech this year. There must be an email from the govt sent to all the doctors. After all, if it's just out weight them we don't have an official disability. Try to find a new doc if you can. Hugs love and prayers tomorrow is a better day! 🙂💕🙏🌸

Listen to ME. I had WLS two and a half years ago. I lost 80 lbs. BUT my pain is worse than ever. Do not let these DA Drs tell you losing weight will be your cure because although it's helped tremendously the fibro is here and there is NO cure. Please keep a notebook journal of your dr visits so you have your own documentation. Sending soft hugs your way. 💋💝

My Grandmother was 4 foot 11 inches tall and weighed 97 pounds she once had a doctor tell her if she lost 10 pounds her diabetes would disappear as would her joint pain.

I just got my medical records printed out so I can take them to my genetics appointment. Obesity is written in there more times then I car to count. I have been to a metabolic coach, it would literally be impossible for me to reach the prescribed weight because my bones, muscles, and organs weigh 25lbs MORE then the 130 my previous doctor wanted me to weigh. So I would have to loose ALL the fat on my body and 25 lbs of organs or bones or muscle to weigh 130. I dread speaking to doctors that are so idiotic.
