Issues with blood drawing

Oct 25, 2015 10:38 PM

Has anyone ever had a situation nwhere when you got you blood drawn nothing but fluid was coming out. The tech was even shocked. She actually said..why is there fluid coming out your vein?.. I think she caught herself and then changed subjects. But I thought it was strange also?...

That is odd. Makes me think they haven't hit the vein right?
I hate having blood drawn. They have to use a butterfly needle as my veins are too small and it takes a long time. Unfortunately, since my trauma from my last hospital stay I now react to blood tests badly. I got very hot, felt very sick and thought I was gonna pass out. The GP gave it a name but I can't remember what it was.
Hope you get to the bottom of the cause Newfibrogirl.

That's very odd. I'm inclined to agree with PJB; they weren't in a vein. Maybe a lymph glands? 🙏🌼

Yep, definetly sounds like they were not in a vein that time, but that is very odd.

Newfibrogirl, that nurse was definitely NOT in a vein. "Fluid" does not come out of your veins, only blood. She probably went straight through the vein and into the tissue underneath. No need for worries.. The nurse should have definitely known better but probably didn't want to admit that she made a mistake so instead, frightened you needlessly by making that ridiculous comment. I'm sorry that happened to you. Next time you need bloodwork, ask them to use a butterfly needle. They are less likely to blow the vein and therefore, no problems!! Sending {{{Hugs}}}🌻🙏🏻
