Itch, Scratch, Itch, Scratch...

Oct 30, 2015 11:42 AM

It's been over a month now that I suddenly itch in my joints & sweaty areas (inside elbows, back of knees, between collarbones). It drives me nuts! I've used Aveeno, Benadryl, and other itch ointments. Taken benadryl and anxiety meds. Nothing helps!!!

I've noticed that the skin in these areas is beginning to feel rubbery. Being I have 3 autoimmune diseases, is it possible this is some new rash type thing? I'm baffled. And my rheumy appt isn't until December. Help!?!? πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Flappys, Could it be a manifestation of the Sjogrens? That's the only thing I can think of for the moment. Sorry, just took a pain pill.

I'm not sure. She does ask every time I go, do I have any rashes. I'll have to look into it. Thanks! πŸ™πŸŒΌ

My hubby brought home some Aveeno oatmeal bath gel so I'm going to use it in the morning. I did find out itching can be a symptom of 1) fibromyalgia, 2) sjogrens, & 3) hypothyroidism...all three dx with. There goes that triple whammy again! πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Do you use any use any transdermal magnesium? I don't always have the patience to sit for twenty minutes in the bath for magnesium flakes. But the magnesium oil is my go to when I have to take a break. It helps with the itchiness and also some of the aches of fibro and awesome hypothyroidism (I've got both and I've been a very bad girl scout my thyroid medicine. And I'm starting to get the neuropathy back from the hypothyroidism. Weirdly enough, since discontinuing the armor thyroid, I've stopped having night sweats. So don't get that. But I am still running hot and bothering my roommate with the icicles that grow from the ceiling when i control the thermostat. I just say he needs more meat on his bones lol

Hi, Vivcstar. I use Pure Flo magnesium chloride Bath flakes (is chemically different than Epson salts and for my body it works better for some reason that docent molecule attached to the magnesium does me good.)

Now where to get it, I use allstarhealth.com to get the flakes because I can order a box of twenty - thirty pounds of the flakes and only get charged 5.95 for shipping! Yes, please! And plus it's almost 74% off the regular price, hmm all i know is it is cheapest one been able to find.

Now I have heard of people making their own oil. I'm too busy not cooking my own meals with my special diet to mess with that lol. So I just use the ancient minerals magnesium chloride oil. It helps so much with restless leg syndrome and cramps.

I find the bath is better because it gets into all your body parts that need it. Now here's the thing about the bath water, it must be between 101Β°F-105Β°F in order for your body to pull in the magnesium. If it is any hotter, you are actually pulling magnesium or of your body due to osmosis or some other function like that (don't ask me how exactly because I took biology class many years ago in college).

Oh and when you begin using magnesium transdermally, go at it slowly. It is detoxing your body. And if you can is best to do it after exercise of any kind so those toxins can be more readily pulled out from the body. And magnesium is also the first "ingredient" (if you will excuse my lack of scientific terms) that starts nearly 200 DIFFERENT detoxification processes. These processes won't begin without the magnesium (and somewhere between 75-90% of all Americans are magnesium deficient due to the all American diet and the companies that "fortify" the food that's cheapest. Used to be vegetables and fruits and fresh meat were cheaper.. Don't get me started on that lol... Stepping away from the soap box.)

Oh and I know that I used to think taking magnesium by mouth was enough but since almost 88-96% is LOST in the g.i. tract, you'd have to take enough to cause undesired side effects (like the runs and then you just screwed up your guts... Sorry to be graphic).

Anyway, I try to do magnesium baths every day. And when I do in much stronger when I conjoin them with my adapted version of the Martin Pall protocol for fibro and multiple chemical sensitivity.

I hope this helps. I feel life I've forgotten something... But if i have i know where to find y'all.

Big hugs and keeping on hoping :) πŸ’œπŸ˜ΌπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’žπŸ˜†

Kitty26, thank you so much for sharing all this info. I'm going to check this out. Unfortunately I cannot get a bath anymore because I can't get up and down from it. I have up baths 12-14 years ago. I've been taking vitamin magnesium. I'll have to find something else. Thanks again! A blessed day to all, and a safe Halloween for the kids! Today is my grandfather's birthday, and we use to let the kids dress up and celebrate at his house. I sure miss him! πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Flappsy, has your itching gotten any better? I have been itching for quite some time as well in sweaty spots and the area behind my knees feels just like you described. I also have Fibro and hypothyroidism but not sure on sjogrens. Although the dry eyes, sinuses, mouth, sores, etc. leave me to believe I have that as well. Gotta love that triple whammy!! I keep itching on my back by my shoulder blades and it's such a deep itch that after I scratch, it comes right back. Don't even get me started on the itching in my boobs!! It's making me crazy. I hope you got some relief from the Aveeno. {{{Hugs}}} and prayers as always. πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»

Oh and i forgot magnesium contains serotonin, which will help with pain and the depression that most of us suffer from.... Magnesium also helps relax the body's muscles and many use it to help them relax b4 bedtime.

Today's itching was less. I you'll a shower with Aveeno liquid soap, lathering up very heavy. I left it sit on my skin then rinsed offer, and it left a soft later of oil on me. Then I use some itch creme & lotion at the elbows, knees, neck, hands, & feet. I did real well until about 2 hours ago. Now the itching is back. Uhg!!!!! πŸ™πŸŒΌ

I have a rash in similar areas and hives at times. The dermatologist told me for skin issues Allegra works best. He also suggested Sarna an anti itch lotion. My skin was getting weird where I had the issues like thicker.

I had no idea all the itching and rashes could be related to FM. Interesting.
