Jaw locking up is this normal?

Feb 23, 2017 7:21 PM

I am constantly be woken up by my jaw locking up on me. It is also starting to lock when I eat and talk. I have tried everything from hot pads and ice packs to Naproxen. I am getting really concerned. I can't get to the doctor's until the end April. I don't know what I should do. Should I go to urgent care? Or will they actually do anything?. I am 16 years old and it is making it really hard to eat, talk, and focus, please send your thoughts. Any advice for relief might be helpful too.

You might want to see a dentist. They know more about this then a doctor.

Yes as Animallover2 said you need to see a dentist and they will probably refer you to maxifacal who will be able to tell you a lot more about why and what they can do to help, they will also be able to give you jaw exercises that should help improve your jaw movement

Massaging the jaw joint can help until you can see a dentist.

I have had jaw locking and clicking in the past do you have fibro ? I do believe it is a symptom of the illness
Read up as much as you can and look into your diet are you getting enough oils and calcium
All worth looking into
I'm up for trying almost anything
Hope your well

U need to ask a dentist or doctor about tmj, i used to wake up feeling like my jaw was broke. Mine ended up being mostly from grinding my teeth when i slept. A chiropractor can help too , mine helped put my jaw back into alignment.

My jaw locks sometimes because of my lupus. Have you been tested for any autoimmune diseases?
