Jet Ski Explosion

Jul 23, 2015 4:59 AM

I've never posted and don't use face book but decided I really need to tell my story. I live in pain everyday and as I text this tears steam down my face. Forth of July 2014 I was on our Jet Ski/Seadoo I pulled it up to get gas at the pier so I could drive it across the lake so my teenagers could ride in the cove where it would be safest. On a full tank of gas I started it and went about 10 feet from the pier and it died. As I hit the button to restart it and give it some gas it exploded completely in half and caught on fire. I went 10-15 feet in the air and on my way up caught my legs under the handle bars. Shaffer the end of my right tibia, ruptured my disc at L1 L2. I have since had my tibia fixed, hysterectomy, gallbladder removed, several injections, and just finished have a painful discogram to find out about my ruptured disc. To top it of Seadoo won't pay out anything unless there was a fatality and my insurance just denied me having a back fushion. I continue to tell myself "I can do this".

Explosionsurvival, That's a horrifying accident! I'm so sorry it happened. You said the insurance denied your disc fusion. Do you know why? Your doctor may not have given them enough details of your damaged discs. Have you considered a second opinion to back up the needed for surgery? Did you talk to a lawyer? I now from experience that when lawyers get involved the companies generally give in. I was screwed over one time too many.

I also have damaged discs, cervical through lumbosacral areas. My damages started with auto accidents, but now I have DDD, OA, and osteopenia. In the '90s I had 2 neck surgeries, fusing 4-7. Now the discs above and below are bulging as they collapse, but all the doctors refuse surgery because I could lose my ability to talk or swallow; the risks outweigh the cause of pain. Unless I begin to lose the use of my arms o of hands it's a no go. I do have neuropathies but I'll have to live with them.

I can't tolerate strong pain relievers due to allergies. Normally I use Tylenol Arthritis, Aleve, and/of voltaren gel daily. If it's real bad I use Tramadol. But I am also have fibromyalgia and recently diagnosed with Sjogrens & hypothyroidism. These 3 dx share common symptoms so if I have a flare up it's hard to know why. I'm on Plaquenil for the sjogrens and its helped slightly with the pain. I was taking gabapentin but I have undiagnosed tremors, so it's on hold. It was helping with the nerve pain. I can't tolerate ice so I use socks filled with rice; just cold enough to help & not hurt. I also use heating pads or warm showers. When I'm hurting badly I rest, & when I'm overly tired I rest.

I'm telling you this, about me, to give you suggestions, it you aren't already using them. I have many more problems and the majority came after mass removed in 2010. I, like many on here, started with one of two things but have progressed to many problems. Everyone on this site is so very helpful and knowledgeable. They've suggested possible dx named for symptoms I've described, of solutions to ease the pain.

I hope you find as much support, compassion, and understanding here as I have. (((Hugs))) & prayer for you! Have a blessed day today with less pain. 🙏🌼

Explosionsurvival, I am so sorry that happened to you. What an absolutely horrifying story. First let me just say I'm sending you gentle hugs and my prayers that you are able to work with the insurance company to get their decision overturned to repair your back. I never heard of paying insurance on something and then being told that unless there was a fatality, they will not pay out. Threat is utterly ridiculous!! There had to have been something seriously wrong with the craft if it died, then exploded when you started it again. I would look over the insurance you pay on that thing and also contact a lawyer to see what, if anything, can be done to get them to pay. Even if you have to sue the company.
As far as your medical insurance company goes, I would call them and speak to a laison to find out why. Perhaps they want you to get another opinion (which in your situation would be a good idea). I have DDD, DJD, RSD, CPRS, I've had 5 cervical surgeries and my neck is full of wires, etc. my thoracic spine has developed scoliosis at T7 and my lumbar spine almost all of the discs have herniated and I have fractures in my lover lumbar. I have no shoulder joint in my left and the right is rapidly catching up. I'm also dealing with having to have two new knees but they can't because of all the weight I put on from not being able to be active. I also have Grave's Disease (hyperthyroidism) which they removed my thyroid and put me on levothyroxine and I'm just a mess. I've lived in pain 24/7/365 for the last 22 years.. Oh yeah, I also have fibromyalgia and other things (too many to list). I pray you get the help and support that you need. Hang in there and know that as long as you come here, you're never, ever alone and can talk about anything. This is a no judgement zone and feel free to cry, vent, laugh, give advice based on your experiences or just listen. It's sure been a Godsend to me!! I wish you all the very best. 💕😍🌻
