Just a pain rant...

Jan 25, 2018 11:33 AM

I have chronic back pain, a bulging disc, mild Scoliosis, severe arthritis, fibromyalgia, bipolar depression and anxiety. I’ve been suffering with this for nearly 6 years and it just keeps getting worse. I was morbidly obese for about 15 years so I know I did a lot of this to myself...I had gastric bypass surgery a little over a year ago and have since lost 165 pounds so now my BMI is 28 so I’m a lot closer to a healthy weight than I have been in years, but it seems as though since I’ve lost the weight, I’m in more pain than what I was when I was over 300 lbs. It has been suggested that when I was overweight I had more cushion and maybe that’s why I’m feeling it more now. I’ve been in constant level 8-9 pain for more than a month now. I just can’t seem to get any relief. I bought an inversion table and use that for 3 minuets a few times a day. Bought a hand held massager with heat and they both help while I’m using them but as soon as I stop it’s right back. I use an electric heating pad and a rice filled back buddy that you can either put in the microwave or the freezer. And again, it helps while it’s on but then it’s right back. I bought a new back brace and that helps for a short time as well. I just can’t ever get any relief for more than 15-20 minutes at a time. The pain meds I’m on take my pain from a 9-10 to an 8-9. So they really don’t do much either. So still, sleep is my only escape from the pain.

Hello and welcome to our community ChristineMSwain. I'm sorry that you live with chronic pain. First, I want to give you a huge congratulations on losing that much weight. It's amazing :). Secondly, you are not to blame for your chronic pain. Scoliosis, arthritis, bulging discs, and fibromyalgia have many different factors that play into the development of them.

If you have any questions, just ask them. Someone in this community usually has answers or can give suggestions for you to try.

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been on for a while but I rarely talk to anyone about it. I usually just use it to track my pain.
