Just got back from the pain management doctor

Jan 18, 2016 7:19 PM

Okay. I have been waiting for this appointment for abou two months (had to wait for insurance). Anyway, his office claims to specialize in fibromyalgia, but I am not sure. He wants to start giving me cortisone shots in my joints. Has anyone else had this?

Yes, I had cortisone shots in my joints but those were administered by my orthopedic surgeon. Pain management only did nerve blocks and such. Anything other than that, I went to my ortho. He may be wanting to get a baseline to see if the cortisone takes the inflammation down and eases your pain some. I would ask him why and see what his answer is. Keep a pad and paper close to you and when you think of stuff, write it down so that you remember all the questions that you have for the doctor. {{Hugs}} and prayers that you get the answers you need and that you get some pain relief from the injections. πŸŒ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜Š

My rheumatologist and pain doctors both administered pain shots to affected joints. They should offer relief for up to six months. Never lasted that long for me and haven't worked for years, but I think it's because of another health issue. Read up on the shots to see if it's something that may help you.

What happened to make you question whether he's a fibro specialist?

Yes, I've had cortisone as well into my joints but they have only been done by my orthopedic surgeon.Pain management takes care of the facet joint injections and such.

My orthopedist gives cortisone shots in my joints. My pain specialist offers what he calls trigger point injx (not sure of locations bc he didn't do any on me), and spinal nerve blocks which have me awesome relief. If you aren't comfortable with him then don't do it. But if you're willing to try it out, you might have good relief. Hugs & prayers you make the best decision for you. πŸ™‚πŸ™πŸŒΌπŸ’•
