Just in a second things change

Oct 15, 2015 6:16 PM

I was having a pretty good day. I even felt good enough to cook my hubby a full super. I was on the computer when my cooking timer went off. Went to the kitchen and at some point, while moving around between the stove and sink, I suddenly had a horrible sharp shooting pain in the left sacrum, buttock, hip, waist, and down the leg to my foot. Omg, I couldn't stand up straight for a few minutes, just learned on the counter.

Now, fifteen minutes later I can feel the shooting pain coming from the sacrum and lumbar joints. Part of it shoots upward through the left Sacral-Iliac joint and travels across the top of the iliac crest at the waistline to my side. The other part shoots down through the tailbone into the buttock, down the whole left leg and through the bottom of my foot to the toes. On top of the shooting pain, I now feel tingling in these same areas. Ive used voltaren gel but not helping.

I think something has changed in my back discs since last week. This is the 4th episode of sciatica in a week, including 2 days ago, yesterday while driving my hubby home from the hospital, and now. I moved last week and had 2 bad pinches in the T11-L3 area. It hurt for days to even rub along the spine. That was when I got the first sciatic pain.

Sitting in the recliner and its now in both buttocks, legs and feet... I think I'm going to cry it's so bad! I forgot how quickly a movement can change my pain levels. I've been skating along at a 3-4 for months. Need my ice (rice pack) & Tramadol this time, but I afraid to get up and move. 🙏🌼 😢

Oh dear Flappys, I am so sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with your back. I hope you can get some relief.

Thanks Anonymous. I really have had such a long run with mild pain, except the fibro sites ( but I can block those mentally). I forgot how bad it could get. Good thing I have Ortho appt Monday anyway.

Wishing everyone a blessed night with as peaceful sleep and little pain as possible! 🙏🌼

Oh Flappys, I am so sorry and all I can say is I understand. Gentle hugs.

Flappys i have had the same thing lately. My doctor won't even entertain the idea of a new scan. It sucks balls badly but i found constant ice gets me through the day and lots of meds. If your perineum goes numb or youhave any incontinence go right to the hospital. Sending you lots of love xxx

Thanks Amanda & Fallen. I'm laying in the bed. My lumbosacral area tingles and its all the way to the bottom of my left foot, with stinging and tingling and pain in the leg, but at least it's not on the right side still. I've taken a muscle relaxer but I can't tell if it's helped. I laid on ice pack (in a towel... Grrrr).

I researched for the past hour and it seems my symptoms are pointing at the S1 nerves. But I was surprised to see the symptoms of cauda equina. My chiropractor sent me to a Mauritian for those exact symptoms in 2011, but he immediately dismissed a possibility because a chiropractor referred me. I've spent the past 4 years dealing with bladder & bowel incontinence & dysfunction, along with loads of sensations in the external perineum. Have my doctors missed this? If my symptoms stay the same or improve I'll talk to the Ortho Monday. But if it gets worse I'm going to the ER. I'm not sure I'll sleep tonight, but I have my allergy asthma appt in the morning, so I'm going to try and sleep. Hugs to all! 🙏🌼

Flappy, sorry it changed so fast. I hate back pain. I have a stiff shoulder blade, where pain builds, and when it stretches or reaches a certain point of tension, guaranteed flare. It's tough, especially when you are so obviously fine to extreme pain.

Hang in there we are all rooting for you!

Flappys, praying for you hunny! I can most defiantly feel your pain. My back has been hurting like a horrible flair that won't stop since my RFA, with sciatica in the mix. Just take it easy and don't over do it! Prayers always!

Thanks to each of you, from the bottom of my heart! It was a rough night and I'm very stiff and slow this morning. It feels like if I make just one wrong twist or bend my whole back is going to lock down. I have to get a shower and get to my asthma appt, so I'm trying to be real careful. I may do bedrest when I get back if it still this way. I have muscle relaxers but they make me unsteady & sleepy. I wish you all a very good Friday! Hugs & a prayer for each of you! 🙏🌼

Just saw this post. I'm so sorry to hear that you're in such horrible pain! Question: has any of your doctors ever ordered a you a tens devise? It is a great deal of help for me with any of my back pain. It gives me relief. It's simple to use. If you don't have one, you may want to ask about it. Look it up. It really helps with nerve pain. Helps to send a different signal to the brain and divert your pain. In the meantime, I'm praying for you sweets!

Thanks Moparmom & Sleepingbeauty. It seems to be decreasing some, and its only in my left side & leg today. I do have a TENS unit, which I used the days ago after the first sciatic flare up. I'm hoping it didn't make it worse. I'm resting with meds and ice. Thanks for the love, hugs, good vibes, and prayers! The same back to ask you. 🙏🌼 💕💕
