Ketamine infusions?

Feb 12, 2015 8:41 PM

I have suffered chronic pain from a traumatic left below knee amputation in 2006 at the age of 29. Right now I'm on fentanyl patch 50 mcg/72 hrs, gabapentin 3600 mgs/day & oxycodone 15 mgs PRN q 4 hrs but basically am suffering all the time nonetheless. My pain specialist recommended ketamine infusions and I was wondering whether anyone else here has tried these?

Hi mlbower1977. I haven't heard of that, but my insurance kept me from seeing my pain doc last year. I'm sorry about your amputation & pain. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I've not heard of the infusions bur ketamine can be a wonder drug. I asked for asked ketamine induced coma (asked while ago, they said no). I asked for this as ketamine atthe right dose in he right way can RESET the nervous system. Some people have them and have no pain at all after, some still have a bit of pain and sometimes it doesn't work

I have had CRPS since I was 19 and now I'm 21, and after a nerve decompression surgery and a spinal cord stimulator I am now looking at the ketamine infusions because it seems promising. My pain has only traveled and gotten worse over the past year and the SCS only helps me be able to walk in pain.

I'd say try it, definitely, because there has been some success in using Ketamine to treat CRPS, which sounds like it might be your diagnosis? It's also called RSD RND or causalgia.

There is a doctor I have been researching on Doctor Ronald Harbut, also known as the Father of Ketamine for crps here in the United States since he is the Doctor who brought the ketamine treatment methodology here to the United States. You can find information on him on Rsdhope.org
or If you would like to contact Dr. Harbut at his new clinic, The Hot Springs Pain Institute, to be seen as a pain patient or for low-dose ketamine treatment, you can contact the clinic at (501) 651-4488 or Fax (501) 651-4490.)

I have had CRPS in my right arm for more than 10 years and have had 3 five day infusions that have completely removed my need for pain meds for 6-10 months at a time. I wish I had them earlier on as it probably would have reversed the condition completely. Please note that no everyone can tolerate the drug or has the same response but it has been a god send for me.
