my knees were fine, until I got hurt and fractured my kneecap. I had arthroscopic knee surgery on May 19 of this year. I have a great Ortho Surgeon, he did a lateral release, removed loose bodies, I had a meninscus tear, anyway long story short I now have osteoarthritis from my injury. my knee swells, stiff and at times painful to even walk. I do exercises, ride my stationary bike but at times, that is very difficult. I hope what your feeling isn't OA! I know in the early stages it doesn't show upon X-rays. my knee pops a lot, grinds now. I'm going on 4 months post op and still recovering.
I forgot, I did 3 months of physical therapy and this Friday will be my last time...I hope! I'm 53, work from home fortunate there! and I was so active, hike, walk, you name it and now it's depressing to be so limited. by 6-7pm my knee starts to scream to get off it now:-( i know if I didn't have my pain meds, it would be so much worse...I wouldn't be able to do anything. my Ortho Surgeon said one day I'll need a new knee. those last 15-20 yrs at best so I'm holding off as long as I can, doing so it'll be better for me in the long run...I hope. it's no fun having to be in bed to rest this early in the evenings every day to ice & elevate. somedays I don't know what to do
saw my Ortho Surgeon today, my OA has progressed rapidly since my accident on March 4, I'm at the last option...a total knee replacement. he gave me a lot of info about it, it's very interesting as the pattern or mold used for the cutting of the bones is custom made by MRI jigs (pics) or something. he described it almost like a 3D printer. the site is www.biomet.com. it's called the Signature Solution and there's videos that show all this and I'm impressed! and know I'll feel better I hate the thought of surgery but what I have now, is no quality of life. I say, bring on my new knee and let me dance this Christmas!
pretty sure my insurance denied the Ortho Visc injections, I got scheduled today for my MRI next Tuesday. These images will for the jigs used in my surgery. wow, interesting but I'm scared! I know my knee osteoarthritis has gotten worse. my knee has been in control of my life..:-( I know I'll feel better I'm just having that normal reaction to surgery, and hoping I won't hurt anymore after I'm healed up, PT and all that again.
I just had my pain mgmt dr appt made, wow...it'll be Oct 14th. I "might" have enough pain meds till then but I'll have to cut back. I'm so tired of hurting since I got hurt, and surgery and another to go. it will get better! maybe my Ortho Dr could write me a script to get me through till 14th...I hope so even if it's just 30 that would help.
I heard there no guarantee arthroscopic surgery will be totally successful. I feel mine was with all I had going on, but that OA has really progressed fast so I'll be getting a new knee in late November or so. I hope this helps not only my pain but my ability to live my life. I so agree...anytime there's no pain it is just Heavenly!! hope that continues for you!!
I am 33 and have severe knee pain. When I was 18 I had a repair done, hasn't been tight since. My knee is bone on bone. I have been told for the last 7 years I need a total knee replacement. I am very concerned about developing a blood clot again if I go threw with the surgery!
I was involved in an accidentwith a car dec '13, friday the 13th of all day. Had all the relevant tests and seem countless appointments and so getting this alarming sharp pain from my lateral knee, where i got thrown to the ground. Ruled out countless problems but now onto a neuroma in my knee, has anyone had anything similar or help me so catching it toi see theconsultant at the end of the month to see where i can go next. This has cippled me in work and my enjoyment of cycling and don't know where to go next
I have been living with OA in both knees for 25 years. I have had 3 arthroscopies over the years for meniscus tears. Recovery was amazingly fast and, other than the PT, easy. My PCP discontinued the opioids that had helped for several years, due to a political change at my provider (VA) and has offered no alternatives. Just to keep my life interesting, I am severely allergic to NSAIDS. I am trying nutritional supplements that have anti-inflammatory properties. Suggestions?
I had arthroscopic lateral release on my left knee june 29 dis year. I had minor pain from surgery, but was a big improvement compared to last several years. I was up walking with crutches in days and without at two weeks. By late July the original pain started to reoccur, moreso when i lay down. I lose a lot of sleep due to the pain. As it stands, i still have to be carefull about weight put on left knee, stairs/steps are done one at a time, every slowly and there is absolutlely NO running.
