Knee update 👍

Jun 27, 2016 3:35 PM

Yay, no surgery or scoping needed!!! 🙏 Had my knee follow up today. It was not a sprained knee. He said I have grade 3 chondromalacia of the patella (along with the OA), and the kneecap is subluxating out of position due to the damage I have, which is what causes the pain. He took me out of the immobilizer splint & gave me a steroid injx. 💉 I didn't even feel the needle! I have at home exercises and they are contacting my insurance to get approval for a patella support brace to wear. Must be expensive if insurance has to approve it.

Hope everyone is having as good a good day as possible! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Awesome I glad you are avoiding surgery! Let the healing phase begin.

Good luck getting it approved! Actually I believe that's one of the cheapest options for knee bracing. The unloader brace for OA starts at $800.00. The ones that have the donut ring around the knee cap are to help hold the patella in place. And unless you have large legs you can pick one up for around $20 - $30. My insurance won't cover a knee brace unless it's hinged.

Yeah! I am glad you have some good news!

Thanks everyone! Scaryann, I have OA too but he said the patella issue is much worse. Where would I get a brace if my insurance won't cover it?

AlwayZ, I actually walked the treadmill again, but very slowly. Don't want to risk anything! 👍

Flappyslady I got mine at walmart's online store for around $30. The one I wanted was at our local pharmacy, but it was too small. That one was only around $25. Sorry it took so long for me to respond, it's been an awful, horrible, rotten week.

That's good news!

Flappys, I just looked it up and sometimes amazon has the hinged braces. Also DonJoy has an online store for knee braces as well. Like Scary, my insurance will NOT cover a knee brace unless it's hinged so I'm stuck with a short immobilizer that I don't wear unless it's during the winter time. Hope that helps and good news about avoiding surgery. YAY!!!!!

I'm suppose to be picking it up today. They didn't mention cost, so I guessed I'll find out soon. May be coming home to order.
