Hi everyone! I have a question... I have unexplained mild-moderate disc herniations through my whole spine plus bone spur in my neck plus a tear in a disc in my L-spine plus tears in both shoulders (right shoulder from sports, left is unknown). I have chronic pain.
Yesterday I went to massage therapy for the first time. She said that I have a “massive” knot on the right of my mid spine that goes into my ribs. She couldn’t correct in one visit. She told me that, although she is not a doctor and cannot diagnosis me, she thinks there is more happening with me for such a large and invasive knot.
Has anyone else had issues like this? Please tell me!
It’s a tight muscle that’s bunched up and prone to spasms. It has decreased blood flow and that causes more pain. I have these in my neck, shoulders, base of skull, back, etc. If these are all worked out at once, you’ll have even more pain. Use a hot pad to help relax the knot and do daily stretches.
Try stretching and using a heating pad before your next massage. Then come home and soak in 5 to 7 cups of Epsom salts for at least 1 hour. Drink tons of water no soda water. You might feel really bad the next day and possibly even have diarrhea (that happens to me on bad pain days after massage when we work on bad knots) but the is just getting out all the nasty toxins. Sounds gross but you will feel better in a day or two. It is worth it.
I often get a large knot on the right side of my mid thoracic spine. It gets bad enough it pulls the muscle all the way around to my front and has dislocated 1-2 ribs.
This makes any deep breaths painful because the dislocated rib(s) does not allow the diaphragm to move correctly.
It has hurt baddly to get the ribs back into place but the original knot in my back must first be loosed or else the rib(s) will just dislocate again very quickly.
I usually need a 2 hour massage time to get the knot out and rib(s) realign.
Finding a therapist that can do both is not easy. Also massage therapist are not allowed to do manipulation. So you may have to go to a chiropractor that has massage therapist on staff. Get the massage and knot undone the have the chiropractor work on your spine and rib(s)
I get bad knots all throughout my ank and shoulders. I was recommended a tiger roller or to start foam rolling. My aunt gave me massage balks that are supposed to help with knots and deep tissue pain which I have often. I like hot baths eith Epsom Salt and alternating with ice. I do prefer the ice.
