I've had laryngitis since Sunday. I saw my ENT doc today so they could put a scope through my nose to see my vocal chords. The doc didn't see any thrush around the vocal chords even though it was on the inside of my cheeks. He's given me 5 days of fluconazole, and strict orders of no speaking, not even a whisper. (My hubby said, "So I will finally have the last word!" Lol). He said I could have thrush lower that he's unable to see, and it could be the cause of the laryngitis, or at least a contributing factor.
Thrush (yeast infection-of the mouth) has been a constant problem since last year. We thought it was from my old asthma inhaler. Before then I only got it now and then, since I developed asthma in 1981. They changed my inhaler 3 times and then gave me a spacer so I don't directly inhale the powder/liquid. I rinse my mouth very well after each dose, so I'm baffled as to why I can't get rid of it for good. It's frustrating!
The ENT doc did see a nodule on the right side of my vocal chords though. And he says it may be too blame for the laryngitis as much as the thrush or even more so. It was not there when they scoped me last year. This nodule has me concerned slightly. In October 2014 they found a nodule in my left lung, my left breast, and my thyroid. And I have 2 small lumps on my right calf, the doc thinks are lipomas; I've never had them before. I've had multiple mammograms, all with no changes in 18 months. The chest CT had no changes in the lung over the past 12 months. The ultrasound on my thyroid led to blood tests and dx of hypothyroidism.
Now I have Sjogrens, and most of my doctors have warned me of possible complications occurring in any part of my body because of it. Although the ENT doc must not be familiar with it at all. After I stated the laryngitis was preceded by a sjogrens flare in my joints and eyes/mouth/nose/throat, he responded by saying, "Well whatever you did to cause that flare, don't do it anymore." Say what!
Am I being overanxious, or is my concern legit? If anyone has input on either thrush or nodules please share. Thanks!!! 🙂🌼🙏😷
