I went to see my gp today because my pain has been really bad over the past few days. And she has started me on gabapentin, I had them after I had my VP shunt placed. She said they will work with my amatriptaine (can't spell it sorry). I hope this works and I can get a descent nights sleep or more than an hour lol!

I started at 10mg and it did nothing, then they put it to 20mg still nothing. So they put it up to 40mg today. My Dr said it works well with the gabapentin but it takes between 4-6 weeks to really kick in.

Gabapentin is a wonder drug. My stepfather is on it for neuropathy in his fingers and toes from cancer, my husband is on it for back pain, and I'm on the extended release form of it for extensive nerve damage. It definitely helps.

I couldn't take Gabapentin at all... The side effects were horrible and only added to my stress and distress. I'm happy it works for you all.

Hi, I'm on both, but you should try Topamax which is the migic medicine and that you should ask your pain management specialist about trying although you'll need to have your blood drawn every 2 to 4 weeks but it is worth it just see what they have to say, it just might be the bull's eye on the neuropathy you suffer from! It's worth a try

The nerve medicine did not help my nerve pain at all. I have taken amitriptyline forever. It is working in tandem with antidepressants & NSAIDs & Lyrica & mj to try to keep the pain bearable, which doesn't keep up. Next is rheumatologist visit. Ack, who knew? I was looking at this woman in the mirror who has had so many health issues & for a moment she was a woman in midlife who thought she had it bad. She really had no idea had bad it would get. Makes me want to weep.🙁

Gabapentin will make u feel spaced out for the first 7 days give or take... but keep with it until ur body adjusts and u will be fine. The spaced out head will subside. This can happen every time the dose is increased... but it is a good drug.

I am now on its sister drug pregabalin... as it can be prescribed at lower doses with the same effect (i was on very high gabapentin b4 i changed over)

Hope this helps a little 🤗
