I woke up in an enormous amount of pain. My legs and back hurt so bad. I texted my boss and she just said, "You need to be at work today because the other lady is out and I'm writing reports." Ummmm.... the other lady has bad pain issues too and my boss never gives her a hard time. I can hardly walk, so how am I supposed to teach!!! I asked for an accommodation where I can have a chair to sit in while explaining stuff to students. Did I get one? Nope!
I work in a place that's a day treatment and residential facility, so the kids are pretty rough. This isn't what I plan to do as a teacher, so I'm just frustrated. If I could afford it, I would quit right now.
At first, I felt so pressured that I said I would be in. Then I thought that I absolutely cannot do it, so why should I be bullied? She's pissed, but oh well. Let her write me up or whatever. I can use today to job hunt. 😂
Hi amccallister I'm sorry to hear about your work not supporting you and your needs. If all you are asking for is a chair . Then why not ? . At less then you can be at work . I hope things gets better for you.
Sexpistols2toddlers . You are so right on it. It is very sad that work places treats there workers unfairly. There is a lot of pain that is unseen. But is felt deeply and hurts bad . I always tell people like that. I wish for a day they can feel my pain that they can't see. But then I say no I don't wish this pain on anyone .
I work in a high stress environment. One day, a student attacked me and I got in trouble as I was hunched over in pain. The staff in the room told my boss I didn't do anything wrong; but I still got in trouble.
I want to do transition-to-work for high school students with disabilities; but I need to get my first certification before I get that one. I took this job because it was available and I was told it would be something else.
Stayinginthefight.. I went on disability in 1999. I felt it made me a failure. Plus I was doing a job I loved. Had just got my nursing licence in 1996. Filing for disability was the hardest thing I ever did but my doctors kept telling me I was killing myself by working. When the fog was so bad I got lost going to my patients homes (i did home health care) I knew it was time. It took me about a year to get disability. Looking back - although it was a struggle it was also a blessing. I was able to run an online group for people living in pain. I was able to meet my fiance. And when my mother's health declined - I was able to move back home and become her caregiver. Also I have worked off and on .. I let my license go but I do work home health as an aide. Working with young adults who have disabilities. That's an full in job where I can choose to go in Or not. As mom gets worse and dad's health declines though I no longer go in. I was 40 when I went on disability. Have had fibro since I was 12.
Amccallister. Sorry about work & really can appreciate your eagerness to be certified to work with the students that are forgotten about! Not sure if you're in the US but you can file an ADA work modification request that would include your doctor staying you need this in order to perform your duties. You can state that your verbal request has gone workout action to date so you want something in writing! Check your HR site, or call them & have them send you the form. Good luck & keep going!! ;)
You guys are amazing. I had a sit down with my boss and I don't think she fully got everything that goes along with Fibro initially. Now, she said she better understands; so I hope this holds true. I really want the work from home job, though.
Since the company you are working for has more than 50 employees you could file for FMLA or even disability. I understand how you feel about disability I filed my paperwork and waited with zero income for 3 years. On the upside if you win you receive a large back pay settlement. I was crushed to leave a career that I was truly passionate about. Mentally I was an emotional nightmare. At the end of the day only you can do what is right for you. There is no easy answer. Good luck I hope you get the virtual teaching job that would be a great help
