Lots of pain and work is giving me a hard time!

Mar 15, 2017 6:38 AM

I woke up in an enormous amount of pain. My legs and back hurt so bad. I texted my boss and she just said, "You need to be at work today because the other lady is out and I'm writing reports." Ummmm.... the other lady has bad pain issues too and my boss never gives her a hard time. I can hardly walk, so how am I supposed to teach!!! I asked for an accommodation where I can have a chair to sit in while explaining stuff to students. Did I get one? Nope!

I work in a place that's a day treatment and residential facility, so the kids are pretty rough. This isn't what I plan to do as a teacher, so I'm just frustrated. If I could afford it, I would quit right now.

Mar 15, 2017 7:13 AM

Off subject...My maiden name is McCalister. If you brought your own chair in would there be an issue? Perhaps a rolator? A script from your doctor to make it more official?

Mar 15, 2017 7:33 AM

I am sorry to hear about your work issues. I am dealing with work issues and retaliation.
It's not easy.
Stay strong

Mar 15, 2017 7:39 AM

At first, I felt so pressured that I said I would be in. Then I thought that I absolutely cannot do it, so why should I be bullied? She's pissed, but oh well. Let her write me up or whatever. I can use today to job hunt. 😂

Mar 15, 2017 7:51 AM

Facing same issue. I came in to work today. Pain level very high today. I'm just breaking down crying.

Mar 15, 2017 8:59 AM

Every job I've ever had, I had that issue. It's like if they can't see the problem on the outside they don't care

Mar 15, 2017 9:21 AM

It burns me up bc no one should judge me or dare to say " I DINT LOOK SICK, YOU LOOK FINE TO ME!".
Human kindness! RESPECT and MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Need a comeback.

I've had my co workers itch about covering for me or whisper behind my back.

Mar 15, 2017 11:27 AM

I just got some passive aggressive messages. I don't care. I slept for so long (too long), but I probably needed it.

Mar 15, 2017 11:40 AM

Hi amccallister I'm sorry to hear about your work not supporting you and your needs. If all you are asking for is a chair . Then why not ? . At less then you can be at work . I hope things gets better for you.

Mar 15, 2017 11:43 AM

Stayinginthefight . I'm sorry to hear about your pain as well. Hope you feel better soon

Mar 15, 2017 11:47 AM

Sexpistols2toddlers . You are so right on it. It is very sad that work places treats there workers unfairly. There is a lot of pain that is unseen. But is felt deeply and hurts bad . I always tell people like that. I wish for a day they can feel my pain that they can't see. But then I say no I don't wish this pain on anyone .

Mar 15, 2017 11:51 AM

Cougarlicious. I understand completely. I always had stomach pains so bad that when I was in high school someone went around saying I was pregnant instead of asking me if I am okay .

Mar 15, 2017 12:13 PM

I work in a high stress environment. One day, a student attacked me and I got in trouble as I was hunched over in pain. The staff in the room told my boss I didn't do anything wrong; but I still got in trouble.

I want to do transition-to-work for high school students with disabilities; but I need to get my first certification before I get that one. I took this job because it was available and I was told it would be something else.

Mar 15, 2017 12:17 PM

Amccallister. Omgosh that's is awful. I'm so sorry to hear that. How long have you been there ? Maybe that will give you enough experience to move on

Mar 15, 2017 12:19 PM

A month and a half. I have an interview late this afternoon and an online one coming up. The online one is for a virtual school, so the work from home would be nice.

Mar 15, 2017 1:08 PM

Good luck. I hope you get it 😊

Mar 15, 2017 1:15 PM

It's getting difficult to meet my responsibilities at work. I don't know about anyone else but i am missing a lot of days. Not sure what to do anymore.

Mar 15, 2017 1:17 PM

I understand that is how o lost my job a few years ago and I never want back to work since.

Mar 15, 2017 1:19 PM

People tell me go on disability, or early retirement. Just the words seem so final to me.

Mar 15, 2017 2:29 PM

I have been on disability my whole life. If you need it then you need it. Just keep in mind it normally takes a long time to come through.

Mar 15, 2017 2:31 PM

I known people who said it took about a year . So I'm not fully sure . But my opinion apply as soon as possible 😊

Mar 15, 2017 2:40 PM

Thank you Westrengirl.
I can use all the info I can get

Mar 16, 2017 6:23 AM

I had to call work and let them know i will not be in. Pain is very bad today. This has been the worse week for me.

Mar 16, 2017 8:34 AM

Amccallister - I so hope you get the work from home job.

Mar 16, 2017 8:44 AM

Stayinginthefight.. I went on disability in 1999. I felt it made me a failure. Plus I was doing a job I loved. Had just got my nursing licence in 1996. Filing for disability was the hardest thing I ever did but my doctors kept telling me I was killing myself by working. When the fog was so bad I got lost going to my patients homes (i did home health care) I knew it was time. It took me about a year to get disability. Looking back - although it was a struggle it was also a blessing. I was able to run an online group for people living in pain. I was able to meet my fiance. And when my mother's health declined - I was able to move back home and become her caregiver. Also I have worked off and on .. I let my license go but I do work home health as an aide. Working with young adults who have disabilities. That's an full in job where I can choose to go in Or not. As mom gets worse and dad's health declines though I no longer go in. I was 40 when I went on disability. Have had fibro since I was 12.

Amccallister. Sorry about work & really can appreciate your eagerness to be certified to work with the students that are forgotten about! Not sure if you're in the US but you can file an ADA work modification request that would include your doctor staying you need this in order to perform your duties. You can state that your verbal request has gone workout action to date so you want something in writing! Check your HR site, or call them & have them send you the form. Good luck & keep going!! ;)

Mar 16, 2017 10:33 AM

I've been through various forms of discrimination for various reasons. Know your rights and fight back if necessary! God bless don't ever let them bring you down and don't give up!

Mar 16, 2017 10:38 AM

The ADA will help?
When I called I was sent firms to file complaint but nothing else.
My issues stem from administration. I also work with children.

Mar 16, 2017 10:45 AM

Search the Web for: "job accommodation network" you'll be able to clearly understand how the process is supposed to work, especially if your working at a place with 50 employees and over.

Mar 16, 2017 10:52 AM

My District has a reasonable accommodation dept.
I didn't get much help in 2010.
I will certainly look into the website and accommodation at work.

Mar 16, 2017 11:21 AM

The department of justice is where the ADA falls under & there are deadlines for action, only when things are documented though. All the luck I can wish for you!!

Mar 16, 2017 11:26 AM

I'm within 6 months for labor law . I will start looking and calling soon.

Mar 16, 2017 5:21 PM

You guys are amazing. I had a sit down with my boss and I don't think she fully got everything that goes along with Fibro initially. Now, she said she better understands; so I hope this holds true. I really want the work from home job, though.

Mar 16, 2017 5:47 PM

Since the company you are working for has more than 50 employees you could file for FMLA or even disability. I understand how you feel about disability I filed my paperwork and waited with zero income for 3 years. On the upside if you win you receive a large back pay settlement. I was crushed to leave a career that I was truly passionate about. Mentally I was an emotional nightmare. At the end of the day only you can do what is right for you. There is no easy answer. Good luck I hope you get the virtual teaching job that would be a great help

Mar 16, 2017 5:49 PM

Ready for this.....
I have FMLA papers.
