CatchMyPain Community and Pain Diary App to manage chronic illness

Nov 08, 2015 11:29 PM

Hi all,
My story is long and complicated so I will save you the details.
Needless to say, I have intense, chronic pain (pelvic, lower back, shoulders, neck and legs) from syringomyelia and surgery for cervical cancer.
I have just gotten into the pain clinic and been prescribed Lyrica.
Starting dose is 25mg nightly but I was given a med plan to increase the dose to 300mg twice a day.
I've read some horrific stories and looking for other opinions from people who have used Lyrica.
FYI...I am also on Endone (5mg x 3daily), Targin 10/5 (2 daily), Endep (10mg x 1daily), Valium (5mg x 3 daily), Prozac (30mg x 1 daily) and a multitude of herbal remediesand vitamin supplements.
I was told on Friday I have Allodynia (?)....neuropathic pain.
Any advice or opinions greatly appreciated.
Sonya xoxo

Hopefully the others are all having a painless night and sleeping well. I also have insomnia. Anyway you will love this community like I do. Thanks for sharing.

I live in Australia so it's only about 5p.m. here. I'm just relaxing a bit before I have to get up and feed the furry menagerie....😃 I'm sorry you have insomnia. I don't suppose you've tried chamomile tea? I find guided meditations on YouTube can often be helpful....along with my meds of course!

Please tell me about your animals! I love them. We have seven chickens, two miniature horses, one Shetland pony, two cats and one canary. I am at the edge of my phone waiting to hear. I have tried the tea as well as Valerian tea. It ia hit and miss.

Oh, you certainly have a menagerie indeed! I had a lot more animals when I lived at the farm but since I had to move closer to the hospital, I had to rehome a lot of my furry friends.... 😢 I now have 5 big cats and 4 x 6 week old kittens (my kids call me the crazy cat lady!) and my purebred cattle dog and a rainbow lorikeet. ☺

I don't know if you can buy this where you live but in Australia they sell a herbal supplement by a brand called Blackmores called Advanced Sleep Formula. It is really good. Perhaps worth a try?

Awesome. Animals rock! They help me distract when the world feels like it is crushing me.🌏🐎🌎 I am in California.

I will look on the computer tomorrow for that supplement I use my phone for this app. I don't think it helps sharing a room with my six and seven year old. They seem to have a nightmare right when I start to feel relaxed to be able to sleep.

WhatTheHell40, welcome to our community family. I, too, suffer from chronic pain from over a dozen diagnosed diseases. I've had 29 surgeries over the last 22 years. I have a pain level of approximately 8/10 and it is 24/7/365 (even on my meds). It's hard to function many days but I push through and find it more important to come here and make sure my peeps are doing ok, seeing who needs my support and who is a "Newbie" that I need to welcome. We are a tight knit, zany, fun loving, compassionate and understanding bunch of folks who are here for all different diagnosis but we all share the commonality of chronic irretractable pain. I am sorry you are suffering. I was on gabapenten and neuronton And they did no good. The gabapenten gave me horrible side effects so my pain management doctor felt that lyrica may cause me worse side effects. I hope that you have success with it. I hope that you settle in with us and realize that you are never alone. There is always someone who will come to your aid when you reach out. The wonderful thing about it is that we "get it" we understand because we live it. You can feel at ease to come here and discuss anything you need to no matter your mood, to rant, vent, cry, laugh, ask questions, etc. there are no judgements here. So, again, welcome to our community and I send you {{{Hugs}}} and prayers for a peaceful night's sleep and a light pain Monday. All the best to you!! 🌻🙏🏻

I know you are. Things will get better, they always do. Just lean on us and we'll see you through it. You got this!! 💕🙏🏻🌻😊

Thank you so much. I have an after hours doctor coming to my house. They think the vomiting may be a reaction to my first dose of Lyrica. 😩

Welcome again WhatTheHell40! AlwayZ pretty much covered the basics of our group. We laugh, very, complain, joke, advise, and never judge. And no one is ever alone. I hope you find a comfortable niche amongst us all.

I don't take lyrica so I can't advise you or offer experience there. I've had many surgeries, most female related. My surgery in 2010, for a 10 cm mass is what's led to my inability to work. It turned out to be 5 in 1 surgeries that I haven't recovered from. It led to pelvic congestion syndrome, pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence, walking problems, etc. This year I had to start using a cane, walker or electric cart in large stores. I have tremors, imbalance, vestibular Neuronitis, fibro, sjogrens, hypothyroidism, DDD, TMJD, OA, and others I can't remember due to the fog that just rolled in! Lol
I'm also allergic to most pain meds so I've had to learn to tolerate pain, and I don't take my Tramadol or muscle relaxers until my pain gets to a 7-8 level. I do have gabapentin but wasn't allowed to take it until Mayo saw me for my tremors (it can cause them). I see my pain specialist next week, so I'm going to discuss it with him, as I have lots of neuropathies in my hands and feet.

I'm sorry you are sick, and it could be the lyrica.I throw up with lots of meds. Yuk! Is it normal for docs to still come to houses in Australia? Maybe I should have moved there when I was younger. Lol 😉. I always wanted to travel to Ireland, New Zealand, Holland, Switzerland, and Alaska. No chance of that now. It's all I can stand to ride in a car one hour. I hope you will have more get you who share your diagnoses. I know Weezie has the syringomelia. Good luck sharing to your meds. ((Hugs))) & a prayer for you to feel better spoon! 🙏🌼

@ whatthehell40 ..I've recently been prescribe lyrica and I have found if I est with it that helps the side effect of upset stomach. However the dizziness and vertigo is still bad plus the muscle tremors. However I've only been taking it for four days. I started on 75mg twice a day and I go up slowly to 150 twice.it also makes me very sleepy and sluggish also unstable on my feet. I don't know if any of this was helpful or was what u were looking for but I hope it can help

I was drunk for over a week when I started on lyrica - and not slightly tipsy, staggering. Each increased dose would have a few days of drunkenness follow. But it helps my neuropathic pain and I think helps me sleep, midnight panic attacks are gone! Side effects include reduced libido and dysfunction. Double whammy! Anyway I continue despite having to pay for it myself because the benefits outweigh the negatives. I hope your sickness subsides.

Used it once and had memory loss within 30 minutes until over 24vhours. Those types of meds cause that for me. Sometimes they can come on instant or over a few days.
