Has anyone had trouble with their masseter muscle? This is my second day in terrible pain......

Aunnie, I have TMJ with clenching grinding and deteriorating joints. It affects my teeth, gums, muscles, sinuses, and causes headaches. I use a rice filled tube sock, which can be frozen or microwaved. Sometimes the cold Ferrell's better than the head, but I can't do ice due to temperature intolerance. I had a special splint made by my orthodontist that helps prevent clenching and grinding. Have you tried massaging something in like Aspercreme? Maybe it would help. Hugs & a prayer! 🙏🌼

AlwayZinpain also has TMJ/TMJD. Maybe she'll have more suggestions. 🙏🌼

Thanks flappys,
I would much rather heat the ice!!!
I have tried the aspercream...... No such luck. I really don't know what to do. I've tried creams, heat, pain meds and relaxation nothing is working. Pain levels are at an 8 almost 9 now!! Hopefully I'll catch a break soon........

Have you thought about going to a dentist and letting them numb the address with novacaine? It might help calm it down. I've taken Flexeril when mine flared up last time. I feel for you because I know how painful it is. 🙏🌼

Hey! I usually don't comment and just read the posts, but I also have TMJ... Clench my teeth... Grind... My massage therapist always starts there as she knows me well enough to know where I carry my stress. One morning I woke up and my jaw was locked from the clenching. Another time following a stressful few weeks one side of my face was swollen when I woke up as a result of the clenching. Bottom line is I totally get where you are coming from. Like most everyone on this site I also have been dx with fibro, PCOS, osteoarthritis but also intracranial hypertension (benign). Pain is just a fact of life but when it gets to the unbearable stage, we have reached our limit! Muscle relaxers have helped with my TMJ also. Only drawback is the grogginess. Alternate heat and cold if you can. It will help!
