Meds equal weight gain???

Mar 15, 2016 2:27 AM

Has anyone else noticed themselves putting on weight n being told it's part of side effects of meds? The problem is that it also makes the pain worse the heavier I get. I have put on over 3 stone and it seems really difficult to lose any. I eat when I wake in pain always crave something sweet. Does anyone have any tips to please help me???? Please

I have gained a lot of weight. Sadly I don't have any advice other then try to continue eating a healthy diet move as much as u can. I'm currently in a bit of an obsessive mode when it comes to lossing weight my dra have told me to not focus on it. The meds I'm on now are more important than weight loss ..ha..I was like uh..OK..but I know it's hard

Thank you but I'm struggling badly. My meds aren't working very well. So no point focusing on that. Just think maybe focusing on losing weight will help with the pain and meds. I feel like no only do I have to put up with pain and slow deliberating body but now I'm getting fat n even my skin has become bad n yet that is one area I have always looked after on a daily basis. Just pants ATM : (

I would try to focus more on a stronger body than a number on a scale.

I put about 3stone on. I joined the gym just for something to do. Didn't do much at first, could even get up their stairs... Now I can run up them and lost 7lb. Before that I just tried some excerises at home. My pain isn't as bad as it was, I can move alot more, so glad I did it. Hope you find something

So gym it is then slow and steady to win the race. I want to focus more on positive movements and use mindfulness for that. I'm so very very grateful for all the input and the knowledge that I'm not alone and you all understand the issues which go with fibro n lupus. Thank you to you all

Your very welcome...can I ask you how they finally settled on Lupus for your diagnosis. And was Lupus or fibromyalgia first? I ask because my dr say I have fibromayalgia and Chronic pain syndrome and he is on the fence about Lupus..

Yes, I gain a lot of weight also.

What kinds of meds do you take? I found that SSRIs contributed to weight gain for me in the past. I have heard that other people have had similar issues. :(

My neurosurgeon suggested joining a gym, too. He wants me to have access to a recumbent bicycle .
Not so sure I can afford it. Wondering if I could save enough to get one for use at home. Does insurance work for that? Probably not.

You would have to check with your insurance company. Some household items are covered up to a certain amount with a prescription.
