memory loss and swollen ankles

Aug 07, 2015 12:49 PM

I Have fibromyalgia, like six different kinds of migraines , sciatica, lumbar radiculopathy, and I'm sure I'm forgetting other things.

I was wondering if anyone out there with the same diagnosesIs suffering from memory loss, trouble thinking, and/or swelling ankles. My ankles are really bad, every 1 to 2 weeks My ankles swell really bad and i gain like 8 to 12 pounds I take my water pills and 1 to 2 weeks later I lose all that weight And sinceI've been doing no carbs to lose weight so I will Lose a couple more pounds then in a week or so later i gain it all back and its all water weight again .

The memory loss and not being able to think straight I thought maybe you was for my migraines but I'm not so sure now all I know is that its getting worse especially the memory loss and it's really starting to scare me. If anyone has some more things happening to you please write me back.

I have migraines, and CRPS/RSD as my main problems. Memory loss is hard to deal with, along with the sown limbs. I have occasional appointments 2-3 hours away, and have to keep my foot elevated to keep it from going completely numb. Do you get color changes with the swelling? My feet are very red, and I can barely keep shoes on. A lot of people will stare, they're that red or blue.

With migraines, I have lost some memory. I also needed a wheelchair earlier this year, and now have no sense of time. I don't know how to manage time, or remember names. I have ADD, but used to be able to cope even without any meds or help.

DawnAngel1966, I am sorry you are having these problems. I have to say that if I sit for a long period of time with my knees bent and feet on the floor, then my ankles and lower legs will swell something fierce. They will also swell like that if I have been on my feet for a very long time and it's hot outside or even inside. They turn bright red and sometimes my toes will turn blue at the tips and people will stare at my feet if I wear flip flops. I wear them when I can't get my sneakers on my feet. Sometimes my feet swell so badly that I cannot get my sneakers on at all. I have severe problems with my cervical spine and having had a neurostimulator implant surgically put in and revised 5 times. I am currently experiencing problems with scar tissue adhesions in my neck as well as my left side into my left, front abdomen. It's suck a pain in the ass. It came from the neuro doctor leaving the wires and connectors in there when he took the battery out of my abdomen to move it around to the back at the top of my left butt cheek during a replacement surgery. The problem is, he claimed that the wires with all the little square connectors at the ends is completely scarred in and is causing me such pain because certain ways I move or stretch, I can feel it pulling and tearing away from the other tissues that it's connected to. My last surgery, I got MRSA and I had a hole in my abdomen on my right side that was there for over 8 months and it ate it's way all the way to my pelvic bone. It took the surgeon 3 hours to remove all of the necrotic tissue and then a plastic surgeon almost another 3 hours to put me back together. I ended up with another infection (Staph) after that procedure so I am horrified to have surgery to remove these wires even though they are causing me really bad pain. I also have a cluster of lipoma tumors on my right side near the bottom of my ribcage. This is what started that whole infection thing... Getting those damned things out!! If they hadn't bothered me and been really sore and sometimes downright painful, I would have left them alone and saved myself from running 104.6 fever 4 days after surgery. I hope your doctors are able to find the reason for the swelling in your ankles. If you have Fibro, that in itself can explain your memory loss. As frustrating as it is, you have to try to have a sense of humor about it or it will drive you nuts. Best of luck and I hope that you can find the help and support you need by hanging around with us and keeping in touch.

Dawnangel1966, You are not alone. Anyone with fibro is going to have some memory issues. I've been having memory issues since 2008, and at first it was just a bit here and a bit there. But after 2012 I started getting lost, forgetting real important things, dates, names, places. I kept telling my PCP who bless it off but a neurologist did an MRI on my brain. He repeated it in 2014 and there were changes in the frontal lobe. I went through some exams and they determined that I have pseudodementia, dementia of unknown cause.

I have also been having fluid retention in my legs and ankles since 2009. My feet turn red and purple when I stand to long. They tingle, sting, and burn sometimes. I'm scheduled with the vein clinic next Monday.

I would suggest talking with your doc, but take someone with you that can add input that supports you've changed. Keep pressing until someone listens and checked it out. But it could take years to see changes like on my MRIs. You'll be in my prayers! 🙏🌼

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I really appreciate it. Luckily so far my feet don't turn colors, but they are getting hot now. I did buy some copper lined Ted hose that seem to help a lot.

I know my memory loss is getting worse so I guess I should go back to the doctor and ask for a MRI. my mom had Alzheimer's and I worry about that being hereditary.

It is just so scary, all of this. I can barely handle it now, I can't imagine it getting worse. Does all of it keep progressing? God I hope not, I don't know what I would do.

I have noticed that my ankles swell really bad when I get dehydrated and I gain weight, lots of weight. My memory loss has been ridiculously bad, but I haven't noticed if that is worse when I'm dehydrated. I lost ten pounds in three days by increasing my water intake to at least 6 8 oz glasses per day.

Dawn, all nureo-blockers cause memory loss. Check what you are taking for pain or to 'control' your headaches. Lyrica, topamax etc.

I've been having issues with my left leg swelling. I was just put into a boot for three weeks because the swelling is so bad its pinching my tendons. But now the swelling is going up my leg. It's horrible. I was also put on meloxicam too.

Hi after reading some of the post here I contacted my doctor about my ankle and leg swelling. My doc said the med I am on causes fluid retention so I was put on Lasix today. I hope this will reduce my swelling.

I heard about the connection between GERD meds & dementia/Alzheimer's today, while talking with friends. I posted one link above. I've been on here meds for over 10 years. I wonder how many younger than 75 patients also suffer. I have diagnosed memory loss/dementia.
