I had a lateral release done back in May. I had a fractured patella, meniscus tear and loose bodies removed. Now I have osteoarthritis in my knee, I didn't before I got injured :-( I've had pt lots of it, the series of orthovisc injections, and now on different meds through my pain mgmt Dr.
Not everyone ends up like me one day having to get a new knee. I hope your feeling OK, I know it takes awhile with knee injuries.
It took me months after my arthoscopic surgery, and pt to walk almost normally.I'm a little better now, but will get a new knee one day, I'm 53 and as they don't last forever I'm buying time with my pain mgmt Dr. I was on hydrocodone 10/325 since March, never really helped. Now I'm on percocet 10/325 x 4 a day, and gabapentin in the evenings...for nerve damage from the scope...it does help!
Believe me, my pain chart was red instead of yellow months ago. I look back at how red the chart was..wow! Some days I have more knee pain around a 5, when i over do it. Most days since seeing my pain mgmt my pain on percocet & gabapentin its down to a 2 most days. Weather bothers me when changes come in.
What do you feel in your knee since your scope surgery?
It will take time, be sure you do pt when its time. They gave me a CPM machine to use at home after surgery. if you're not familiar with it you put your leg in it and wrap it in and it works the movement for your knee. I started at 60 degrees and worked up to a hundred and ten degrees within 30 days. also bought a stationary bike anything you can do once you're able, and okay with your surgery of course to get some movement please do otherwise that stiffness is going to be for more scar surgery Tissue. I agree, crutches of the worst and I was happy to put mine up! ask your surgeon about this CPM machine they gave me one right out of recovery to take Home.
When did people go back to work. Im back I had my operation done on the 8th of October I had 10 days off. Do you think this is ok, im not sure. I rest my knee as often as I can but its getting to a point where its really getting difficult to even move round. They tell you things like this when you come out of hospital. Please advise. Thank you.
No they don't, as for going back to work. I'm not sure, depends on what type of work you do also took me about 4 months because of how I felt and physical therapy 3 times a week and doctor visits just really depends on what you do for work. the only thing I do know from being in your shoes recovery from knee surgery does take a lot of time.
November 4th will be 6 months since my surgery well I gotta say I still have days where I hurt that's only because of my osteoarthritis that I have now have In my knee. it's not so bad that I can't work but it is stiff and achy and I do walk a lot to loosen it up. We have a cold front coming in tomorrow after being in the nineties I tell you what weather changes I do feel. pretty sure that's why it hurts today
