Migraine Cycle

Jul 16, 2016 7:47 AM

Hi everyone, I am 41, peri-menopausal, and in the middle of a two-week migraine cycle. I know that I do not have cluster headaches, but am wondering if there are any migraine sufferers out there who noticed a big increase as their estrogen levels became more volatile. I'm used to getting worse ones around my cycle, but they've been recurring every day for almost two weeks. They may be partly psychological since I'm seeing someone romantically that I'm not sure about, but I've had reservations in the past and haven't had them this bad. I take iron, magnesium, ibuprofen, and usually a little bit of Vicodin or Tramadol to really knock them out. Caffeine can make them worse and I'm sensitive to light and noise. Lately, they start early in the morning after particularly vivid dreams.

Apine, sorry to hear that it is going on so long. I am 48. I have problems with migraines. For me can be from hormonal, stress, medication or weather. I hate to say, but sometimes I will take a cocktail of Advil, gravol, coffee and sumatriptan. Soaking my feet in a hot oatmeal or Epson soak. Ice/heat. Sometimes it just doesn't work, sometimes it works. I hate when I need to remove myself from the
world. Sometimes for days.
NOTE: I noticed that you are on Tramadol, you are not supposed to take sumatriptan when on this drug. It can cause Serotonin shock, which you could die from. I found out the hard way, it was not caught by my doctor or pharmacist until I got sick. I was on both at same time.
Be kind to yourself. Take care Apine. Beets

Dear Beets, thanks so much for reaching out. I commiserate with your need to retreat from the world. I am especially struggling with that right now. Thanks for the note about Sumatriptan. I'm not taking that but I'll keep that in mind. I've not had good luck with migraine meds like Immitrex so I've learned to make my own cocktail too. Ice is definitely in the mix. Thanks again for sharing. I'll check the old threads.

Apine75, I am 51 years old and suffer from horrible migraines. I find them worse around times when I should be getting a cycle but I never know when I will actually get one. There isn't anything but time that helps mine. No meds, only dark room, no noise and no stress. I hope you get some relief. Wishing you the best and hope this one releases its nasty grip soon. {{Hugs}}💕🙏🏻🌻😊

Thanks for your note. It's nice to know I'm not suffering alone.

Apine I have had migraine starting at 8 years old till now and I'm 32 now. I have not found anything but silence dark and cold to help mine...but I did notice tramadol (when I tore my knee) made my migraine worse...and guess what one of the side effects is? Yup migraines...be careful with the tramadol. If it helps yours awesome I hope you find some relief for the migraines soon.

Apine, you are not the only one dealing with this by any means. I've been dealing with them since I was 12 and I'm 35 now. I also don't have anything that makes mine better except for maybe Excedrin if I can catch it early enough and Phenergan if needed for nausea. I also have pseudotumor cerebri which is totally out of control right now, to thank for my headaches. Just waiting for options on Thursday as to what they are going to do with it.

Alpine, I'm 54 and my migraines developed in 1994 after a myelogram. I'm thankful that I don't have hormonal issues because i had my uterus & ovaries removed. I use Midrin for my migraines. But when they don't respond to it I end up in the ER. Hugs & prayers someone's suggestions will be helpful! 🙂💕🙏🌸

Hi, I am very good friends with Migraines, heaven help me. I also am in peri-menopause. Ice on the head, boil my feet in a hot bath, Relpax, I mitrex and Percocet. Not fun at all. Sometimes I feel that I would do anything to get rid of the pain, that is what terrifies me. Not good at all.

With my neck issues I have been getting 2 and sometimes more migraines a week. It's a nightmare. My stomach roils and my eyes hurt and I lose 1/3 of the vision in my left eye. I also have the sensitivity to sound. The only thing I can do is close my shades, turn off all electronics and close my eyes. I have to ride then out because the meds don't touch them. They are definitely not fun. {{{Hugs}}}💕🙏🏻🌻😊

AlwayZ, are you sure things haven't changed in your cervical discs? I've kept a headache &/or neck pain for the last 2 months, and the level of pain has worsened to a 5-6 avg. The doc says it's because that C3 disc is pressing my spinal cord. Two weeks seems like too far to wait, but wait I must. 😔

Jul 27, 2016 11:28 AM

Discs on the spine huh??? What testing do they do check for that, flappy?

Jul 27, 2016 2:40 PM

Flappsy, I have had X-rays done and they say that the cervical spine is closing in on the spinal cord. There are bone spurs and I also have no more "normal" discs there. Along with the wires and all the scar tissue it's putting a lot of pressure on my spinal cord. That's why they want to do the fusion. They told me that especially after they read my ct scan. On top of that I just found a lump in my right breast and need to go get a mammogram. Ugh.. Here we go... 😬🙄

Jul 27, 2016 8:03 PM

Co32for7yrs, An xray showed the disc sliding back (retrolisthesis). An MRI confirmed the stenosis of the spinal canal where the disc is pressing into it. The neurosurgeon said if it keeps going I'll end up a quadriplegic. So I'm scheduled for surgery August 8th to hopefully stop any further damage.

Big (((hugs))) AlwayZ! One step at a time, and we are virtually right there with you all the way! Hugs love & prayers my *twin* friend! 😉

Thanks for the {{{Hugs}}} Flappsy and right back at ya!!! I think it's hysterical that the longer we get to know one another the more I laugh about being twins separated at birth.. LMAO!! I know y'all are with me. Much love, my friend. 💕🙏🏻🌻😊
