Migraine... HELP

Dec 16, 2014 10:39 PM

I'm having am extremely bad mirgraine... Nothing new but I ran out of my medicine (midrin) which doesn't even help any way! I did take 2 muscle relaxers but so far it isn't helping not even the slightest bit. I'm just wondering what anyone else does about the pain! I can't handle it anymore this one just started this morning and it is already horrible. On a scalenfr 1-10 it is way beyond a 10!!! Sometimes I go an get a shot when it gets this bad but I just had one last week so I can't get another one just yet. My neck is killing me and I am nauseous but haven't thrown up, yet. I'm laying in a completely dark room with no sound, I have already taken a hot bath and have a heating pad on my neck. Nothing. Helps. If any one could recommend any medicines that have helped you it would be greatly appreciated! I have tried midrin & fioricet with no relief what so ever. Also I tried imatrex and had a pretty bad reaction so anything related to that is out of the question. Please give me any kind of suggestions!

Maxalt is what my dr gave me when all else failed, sometimes it too doesn't work if you don't get it in early enough so possibly won't help you now but a good choice for future, if all else fails I default to oxycodone.

not sure if you're into herbal remedies. But I have heard that feverfew works for migraines. if you google feverfew / migraines you will see what other people have said as well. I hope you feel better

Thanks I have medicine prescribed for the nausea so unless I'm already throwing up then that will help. I'm almost 100% positive I've tried maxalt but I can't remember I'll have to go back and look. And I'll look into the feverfew, thanks!

I take Nucynta 100mg 3 times a day and 150mg Nucynta ER once a day. I'm in the process of getting into some clinical trails in NY and AZ. Also if you got to get help at the emergency room or Drs office, never say your pain is above 10 even if it is, I was told my pcp that saying your pain is above 10 is a warning signal that people are drug seeking. Not saying you or anyone else here is just a friendly piece of advice. Good luck

I understand!! Thanks for the tip! I've got to the ER before and I said ten! But I've said many times to friends and family on a scale 1-10 it's way passed that!!! I've had a doctor who basically called me a drug addict (when she had my 50 lb chart in front of her) my primary doctor who gives me a shot of demoral when I get really bad like to the point were I haven't eaten or slept because of the pain and nausea. The lady said "that is THE LAST thing I would give to you" and she asked me if I was in school and I told her I had to drop out due to missing more days than the state law required and she said "hmmm well okay then...." And gave me the nastiest look! I was so upset And the headache lasted 2 more days! I'll look into that medicine :) thanks

I was at the VA ER on December 23 for a severe migraine and they started giving IV fluids and a shot of Toradol for migrainers plus Benadryl. Pain went from a 10 to a 5 in about two hours

Have you ever had an echocardiogram? There is a strong connection between a PFO and migraines. We are all born with a small hole in our heart that usually closes shortly after we are born. When it does not we see symptoms like chronic migraines. Just something to look into. If your insurance is a problem just say you have palpitations and shortness of breath. That will get you a cardiac work up. Sorry to have to play games with insurance but they do it to us all time. The good news is that the fix for a PFO is pretty simple and safe. That was my profession when I was able to take enough medication to keep the pain manageable to work.

Place hot water (tolerable) in a pan, sumerge your feet and hands inside and with your head down, place a bag of frozen peas at the base of your skull. The heat in your extremities will pull the blood from your head relieving the pressure and pain. Try it it works. Hope you feel better soon
Soft hugs

I try ice packs and concentrated oxygen in a dark room

Jan 02, 2015 4:58 PM

@Groton where do you get the oxygen?

@LMB I would like to talk to you more about this!!!! I do have a small valve leak in my heart! The leak is pretty small like the size of a pen tip. I also have supraventricular tachycardia. I go to the cardiologist every year or any time as needed. I've gone to the same doctor for many many years now. Dr James Boone. He's an excellent doctor, truly cares! He's actually a pedestrian but he told me I didn't have to go if I wanted to! (I'm nineteen now) He knows all about my health life, mirgraines and so on! He has never brought up anything like this before though, I just had my check up a couple months ago and said everything looked great. At the time I was having some chest pains which I told him that I thought it was heart pain but he said it sounded more like a chest pain. I guess I could say I am a little paranoid because I worry that something is wrong lol but he assured me all was well and told me that my heart was looking just fine and allllllmost perfectly healthy. He said the hole was so little it's almost as if it's not there. I thought I'd just tell you some of this since you know about this more you could maybe tell me what information you have! Also if you wouldn't mind looking at my other post to see what you think about some of my other symptoms!!! I think it's called fibro questions?
Thanks for commenting :)
