Migraines And Homework

Apr 24, 2016 9:14 PM

Migraine days are now more frequent than migraine free days. I'm so nauseous and in pain. I'm missing too much school but can't get out of bed some days. I need to catch up on homework but can't focus

Are you having panick attacks because you have fallen behind? You should ask your doctor for a 504 of EP. The school usually works with disability.

I don't get panic attacks but I do feel stressed. I've never had a 504 plan made up. I had something like it in middle school but it only lasted a year

Hi PainvSchool,
I used to have chronic migraines too until I went on medication. Now they are less frequent. Do you mind if I ask how old you are and if your on any meds?
Believe me I know how tough migraines are. I used to have at least 1 per day and all I did was lay in dark, quiet rooms all day.
If you have the pain companion app, feel free to private message me :)

Hi painvschool. I'm sorry about your migraines, I get them too and also get nauseau with them. I'm a university student so I understand when you say you're missing too much school. It got to the point for me where nothing over the counter got rid of the pain consistently so I finally had to get prescription pain meds. there are also migraine meds designed to lessen the frequency of migraines (not sure if you are aware), that is the next thing I'm not talking to my doctor about. As far as school I think you should look into what academic accommodations your school offers (if you haven't already). I receive accommodations for my depression and panic disorder, I'd imagine that they could also offer them for other chronic conditions like migraines.

Painvschool, my daughter gets Migraines several times a month and she misses school because of it. Try talking about getting a 504 plan put into place at school. It's the Americans with Disabilities Act. Now you have to get checked out by your doctor(s) and get everything documented and he would have to recommend it in order for the school to do it. My daughter also has ADHD and I had to get her seen by a therapists. I found a really good play therapist and she did teacher evaluation's, parent evaluation's and an evaluation on my daughter and once she did the report my daughter was put on the 504 plan and no matter how much her teacher tried to flunk her for being absent she couldn't because her grades were good, she tried to say but she is not on level with the rest of the student's. I said well, yeah I know that is why she is on the 504 plan and the social worker she called in the conference knew my daughter knew everything and knew I cared about her education. Told that teacher she wasted her time! I was not the horrible mother she said I was and she already knew that if , I knew she was going to be absent I came up and got her work ahead of time and got her to to do it when the migraine subsided or when I saw she was feeling better that day. My daughter was in and out of the hospital for awhile and that was the other thing that ticked off the teacher. Thank God for a gracious social worker! Seriously talk to your doctor! That 504 plan is a life saver!

Yeah I have a 504 plan, that allows me to do kinda a lot, like if I have to leave for pain that's okay. One teacher seems to hate me/think I'm getting away with not doing work, but I try my best every day, whether or not she sees it. I get migraines too, for awhile I had really awful pain, basically dropped out for a semester, except theatre classes. My Spanish teacher did let me do a test when I felt better, so I passed that.

My son has migraines and asthmas with anxiety. We just got him approved for intermitent homebound. This will allow him to attend school after 11. He seems to be sick in the morning.
