More work troubles

Nov 09, 2016 11:59 AM

I knew my note from the doctor about a scent free environment would be ignored at work.
My note says I need to work in a scent free environment and to minimize exposure to respiratory irritants and sensitizers to avoid exacerbating symptoms.
I dont see how drilling through metal and concrete and having the resulting particles and burning smell traveling throughout the building is minimizing my exposure.
The air purifier is helping, it's on maximum and really loud and super annoying but no one has said anything and everyone is hanging out in the office (not normal) so I'm guessing they are happy I have it and it's working.
The boss came by and said it's getting worse out there and if I have to leave my desk I need to wear my mask. The air purifier and mask are not a damn get out of jail free card.
I'm the only qualified tech on today so I'm not allowed to leave. I'm dictating work the the trainees like I'm the boss (I'm not) because I'm afraid to leave this tiny 'safe' zone.
And i have to pee! I'm going to hold it as long as possible (i know that's bad) so that i can minimize the number of times i need to leave the office.
i guess lunch is going to be eaten cold (what i have is not good cold) since i can't get out to the microwaves without exposing myself to harm.
Some days life sucks so hard

Maybe that trip with the boyfriend is not a bad idea right now, considering the extra harsh atmosphere at work. How long is the work to go on?

I have no idea how long the work is going to go on. I had no idea they were doing anything until they started drilling and i could hear it through the walls, i didn't think anything of it. then the smell started. with the air purifier on high i can't hear anything so i don't know if they are still going, stopped for lunch, or done.
Hopefully our representative on the health and safety committee will bring it up at the meeting today, i asked him to mention it since it's in violation of the doctors note.

He brought it up and the meeting and got brushed off. i truly hate the facility manager. he needs his ass kicked.
They only brought in an air scrubber after it got so bad that normal people were having trouble breathing.
Apparently they are cutting and welding pipes in the basement and the thought wasnt there before hand about making sure the air was clean and not making the rest of the building sick.
They will be continuing tomorrow again.
If they don't have that air scrubber running and that shit gets me again tomorrow they are going to be short the only qualified person for the rest of the week. Fuck them. I'm so done. they can try to fire me, I'll be taking them to court if they do.

Oh gotobef that's terrible, managers and supervisors don't take others in to account and it's easier for them not to accommodate as you're the only "one" even tho they have a Dr's note....they'd soon be worried if you put in a complaint for unfair dismissal (that's not quite the one I'm looking for but you get what I mean?).
They should of given notice if they're having to carry out heavy maintenance like that and not just to you but to everyone as it sounds like everyone is also having difficulties breathing and working with all the particles in the air.
I wish there was something more I could say that would help you 😕
