what does it mean when i have shooting pain go down my legs

You could have sciatica....it's where the sciatic nerve gets pinched or trapped and you get pain going down your bum, hip and/or leg, it can be in one or both legs but you should go to see your Dr to get a proper diagnosis as it could be something else.
I hope your pain eases for you soon xx

sezzy do u need an operation for a lumbar disorder

Angeldiva it all depends on what the problem is, some like sciatica don't necessarily need anything near as drastic as surgery but is very painful until the sciatic nerve becomes "unpinched" or "untrapped" but more serious issues may need surgery as a last resort. The only person qualified to make that decision is your medical team so you really do need to see your Dr before you start over thinking it and start panicking about worst case senario's.
Your Dr will be able to do an assessment then you can discuss what treatment will be best for you.
Try not to think worse case senario at the moment , take things easy call your Dr to get an appointment and in the meantime if you can take something like ibuprofen to help reduce your pain, if you're unsure about what dose speak to your pharmacy until you can get a doctor's appointment

Awww... So sorry to hear that, I wish I had something more to offer apart from a similar tale of woe. I'm just laying in bed with my feet up and stuffing my face with chocolate at the moment. It does nothing for the pain but it's something to do. Hope you get some lasting relief soon

I've Had bad pain in the right lower back/rear area for a few weeks now. I saw my pain management doc today and he said I may have spondylolithesis. He did a steroid injection in my back. I already feel a little bit better. It was hurting bad even with neurotin, xanaflex, and Oxycodone. He said it may wear off in a week or so and that I will probably need multiple injections. Hope you find some relief.
