Nasal Cautery (Cauterisation)

May 11, 2016 1:04 PM

Hi All!
So, I've had a lot if nosebleeds in my childhood, they decreased in frequency, then they got really bad again. So I was referred to ENT and they used 75% Silver Nitrate to chemically burn my little's area (a part of the nose)
I was just wondering how you guys found cautery and and aftercare tips you had.
Also please wish me luck as I do get nosebleeds in my other nostril so may need another cautery for that one (they can only do one nostril at a time)

Thanks guys
Gentle hugs

When they cauterized mine, and did septum surgery, they told me not to lean over, blow my nose, and try not to sneeze for a week. Like we can control a sneeze! Lol The cauterization is no fun, and the aftertaste down the throat was bad. But in a week you should be fine.

Interestingly, I've had nose bleeds many decades, as has my dad. He's been cauterized several times. When he went to Mayo for rectal bleeding, they found Arteriovenous malformations (AVM's) inside the intestines, and cauterized them off. Through researching I found out you can have AVM's in the nose also, and one article compared my pelvic congested veins to AVM's. I wonder how much of mine is genetic predisposition, and how much is due to Sjogrens.

Hugs & prayers all goes well and you won't need the other nostril cauterized. 🙂💕🙏🌼

I had nosebleeds for many years. Nobody could tell me why. Now, with the house being dry and my sinuses not what they used to be, I'm getting them again. I have found that using Simply Saline to keep my nasal passages moist has eliminated the nosebleeds and therefore the need for cautery. I hope that you heal up quickly and you're not too sore. I had Silver Nitrate put into the hole I had in my andomen and it was so painful I cried I can't imagine it in my nose!! Sending {{{Hugs}}} your way and prayers that you feel better soon. 💕🙏🏻🌻😊

I have had nasal cauterization several years ago. I had a crust scab on the area that was more annoying than painful. Good luck.

It's been over a week and my nose is still quite sore :/
The first few days I had blood and pus it cleared up but it's been back the last 2 days. What do you guys think I should do?

Sounds like you could have an infection brewing. I would put in a call to the doctor. Feel better. {{{Hugs}}}💕🙏🏻🌻😊

I've been using antibiotic cream 4 times a day for over a week now. Is it normal that my nose is slightly stiffer and still sore?

I'm not sure on that. Give your doc a call asap, just to be sure.
