Naturopathic medicine - does it help?

Jun 11, 2014 8:01 AM

After several months of elimination diet and supplements, I have lost 15+ pounds. New ailments appeared however. Stomach ailments surfaced around Easter and lasted for 6 weeks. Due to this "unknown variable" had to wait to resolve this before reintroducing foods. My question is: do naturopaths feel everything is a direct result of diet and has anyone had success with this approach to dealing with fibromyalgia?

I think that everything has it's place - yes, Naturopaths believe, in general, that everything is based on diet & that the body can heal itself. Western medicine practitioners generally subscribe to a treatment of symptoms with medications. Sometimes these approaches work, sometimes they don't. I try to make educated (as much as I can be) decisions about what I am putting into my body, whether it be diet or medication. Whatever works for me may be different from whatever works for you. you just have to keep trying until you get the right solution. good job on dropping the 15 lbs! Keep searching!

For me, caffeine really impacts my day in a negative way. Too much and my joints are screaming, and my head is pounding. Salt is another biggie for me. Too much and suddenly I'm swollen everywhere. I have also tried an elimination diet but like you, have so many sensitivities that it's incredibly hard to distinguish one issue from another. Like mamadeb says, if it works for you... go for it!

I'm sitting here drinking my coffee. I can't survive without it. just getting fog out of head and it's 1030 am. Bad flare up this morning and yesterday morning. I have been "bad" this week - ate some wheat, cheese, tomatoes, potatoes.( very small amounts and didn't even enjoy it for the most part, except for the ice cream cone that was good!) and all that I have not eaten for 6 months. but, I have had these flare ups even when on elimination diet so I just felt like giving fibromyalgia "the finger" while I'm on vacation. I hope I can get my act together today so my husband can enjoy this gorgeous summer day without me dragging him down. He deserves a partner who can participate in some fun times....
