May 05, 2016 8:14 PM

I've been at the ER all day. My sister had a stroke and it's affected her whole right side, and she can't swallow or talk well. They're going to be running all types of tests the next several days. Needless to say I'm very stressed, as is my whole family. My EGD is in the morning but afterwards I'm going to check on her. I won't be online, but hope everyone has a good weekend & Mother's Day! Hugs & prayers for all... and I appreciate prayers & positive thoughts from you AOL! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Oh no! I will be sure to send all good wishes and thoughts to you and your family. If you need to talk you have my cell number. (Strokes are one of my specialties) Take care of yourself and try to not over do it. Read that last sentence again, because you need to. Try to take frequent breaks so you don't end up with a big huge pain flare.

It's easy to become fearful but I know you know who is in control of all and He is NOT a God of fear. I will continue to keep you and your sister in my prayers. Just checking in long enough to update... Thank you all for your support, positive thoughts & wishes, & prayers!

After doing lots of tests, and according to test result & various specialty doctor exams, they determined my sister did NOT have a stroke (as originally thought). She had some type of seizure, which has resulted in right side body weaknesses from head to toe. The day it struck she was drawn up like a stroke victim. They aren't sure why or what caused it but it did show up on the CAT & MRI scans with damage, but not as a stroke. She's in the process of being discharged home as I type this. But she can't be left alone, so her son is staying with her. She will be continuing PT/OT with home health techs for several weeks. She is able to swallow, but only small amounts and soft foods for now. She had epilepsy in her teen-twenties, but the last seizure she had was over 10 years ago; she's 57 now. Got to go now. Ttyl. πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌπŸ˜˜

Oh Flappy! My Grandfather, who i treat as my father has had 3 strokes 1 very bad, the other two less severe and a couple of possible seizures. I know how your feeling and I know that nothing I can say is going to help much right now.

The most important thing right now is to try to keep your pain down and focus on your sister . Take tramadol (I remember you saying that that was your acute med) regularly if you need to and just try to stay strong for her and your family.make sure you take lots of regular breaks as LMB said

Your sisters condition should improve over time and with proper treatment she could get back to or close to normal. I am a medical professional to a degree (young carer, first aider, events paramedic etc.) And I do a lot of reading into all sorts of medic conditions. I know quite a lot about the brain and about seizures and I will help in any and every way possible. I'll DM you in a minute and if you need to talk to someone I'm always on this app and I'll send you my number
Love to you and your family

Had never heard of this stroke/seizure confusion. My gosh. Gentle hugs and best hopes for your sister's recovery and for you.

May 08, 2016 4:10 PM

Thanks everyone! It's been a good quiet day for the most part. My sister's son spent the night with her and she had a good night. She has home health coming in on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm just baffled that a seizure could do this to her body, like a stroke. I haven't been able to visit her since Friday at the hospital, due to my own digestive health issues keeping me homebound. I hope everyone has been having a good mother's day! πŸ™‚πŸ’•πŸ™πŸŒΌ

Flappys sounds like something my Dad had years ago called bells palsy, it act's like a stroke and even make the the side of his face droop like he had a stroke or heart attack. Praying for your sister and family still , praying it's nothing serious,! FYI.... The Bell's palsy is not life threatening. When my dad had it it looked worse than it really was. I hope this helps ease your mind some. Love Hugs and prayers!

May our Father in heaven heal your sister completely, and give you all strength thru this hard time. Trust in the Lord at all time, his word says Ask and you should receive. Where yo more agree on the same petition God grant the petitions, but believe that it is done! Declaring healing for your sister in the name of Jesus Christ! Amen

May 12, 2016 1:24 PM

Flappsy, my older sister had Bells Palsy when she gave birth to her first son. Her body was so stressed and she was in labor so long that she developed it and it took several weeks for it to go away. It made the left side of her face droop and that eye blink slower than the other and her mouth turned down on that side. I hope that is all your sister is dealing with. Sending lots of love, gentle {{{{Hugs}}}} and prayers that God watch over you and your family. πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ»πŸŒ»πŸ˜Š
