Needing help with work... again.

Jan 21, 2017 9:17 AM

Work has decided they are sending me for training. The training centre has the hotel attached to it. I will be in this place for almost 24 hours a day for 3 full weeks. It's in an industrial town so going outside probably will not get me into clean air, so I'm guessing I won't have a break from exposure for 3 weeks. I have a small little hepa filter purifier I can take but there really is no voc filtering. I can only take 2 bags on the plane and the slightly better purifier is too heavy. I will take my own bedding and towels. I need to take 3 weeks worth of clothes or somehow wash them in the tub because it's all shared public machines in the facility. I fly out in a week so I don't have a lot of time to prep. I only have an 'i can breathe mask' because i can't find anything else that fits my face. I also have to take a lot of my own food because they can't ever seem to be able to get my food right. So I need all my own breakfasts and snacks and some meal replacements for when they screw up and my travel days. Somehow i have to fit it all into 2 bags. I'm required to take my work laptop so that will cut a good chunk of weight that im allowed out of my carry-on.
Can anyone think of anything else I need to take that im forgetting? Or how i can make this all work?
I'm not happy I'm going. They had 2 volunteers they turned down for this course so that they could send me, when I was saying that I didn't want to go.

Sounds like you've got it covered. I only have the food issues. But washing your clothes in the tub is a great idea.

Oh no that's not good at all, is there a particular reason they want you to go or are they just being awkward?
Is there anyway that you can cancel going or get your doctor to write saying that this trip is unsuitable for you or anything like that?
I'm sorry I can't help more these are the only things I can think of atm 😢
I think you've got most of it covered but how on earth your going to fit it into 2 bags and under the weight limit is beyond me!

Is there a way you can ship the additional stuff you need to the hotel so you don't have to carry them?

They say they want me to be the person to transition the system to the new platform. But the transition is supposed to happen in April which is when I got really sick last year from the stuff from the airport, so i don't even know if I'll be there because it will happen again. There is another class in March, I said I'd go on that one. It would give me time, but they said no. Then later said that it was because the supervisor is on this first class too and he can help me with my illness. But they hadn't originally planned us going together. He was scheduled for this class and then 2 more spots opened up so they are sending me and another guy, and leaving 2 people who volunteered to go behind.
I have an appointment on Monday with my doctor to get a prescription for physio so that the insurance will cover it and I'll mention this whole situation to him and see what he says. I will have to get the training some time so I'll have to go eventually.
I manged 2 bags quite easily going to Jamaica, but that was beach wear and only 1 week and my yoga gear. Not 3 weeks of winter clothing. I'll have to take extra bar soap and wash my clothes in the tub.
I'm trying to get the boss to ship the air purifier that's at work and order some filters for my mask to be sent there. Hopefully he will do it for me, but I'm sure when I go in on Wednesday I'll be told to go ahead and ship it myself and put in an expense claim. Which will mean it won't be there when I get there Sunday afternoon so I still have to take the little purifier. That's also why I'm hesitant to ship my bedding and towels, they will probably get there by Friday and then stay on the loading dock and locked up until Monday, which would do me no good for Sunday.

Can you not see if the have a grocery store near the hotel that also delivers. Also call or email hotel to see if the have a humidifier there.

The only thing I can think of .. which would mean you would have to go outside is to google the food stores and health food stores to see if you can buy it there.

I hope you can get your air filter there ...

And work decided today that i was to much trouble and they are sending someone else... after i spent as much time as i could after work on the weekend gathering food supplies to take with me ($150ish worth) and between my appointments today getting backpacking supplies ($200 worth) so that i might possibly have enough space and weight in my bag to take what i need. At least I have towels and kitchen stuff that is small to take with me when they do send me. I'll probably have to buy all the food stuff again because i will have eaten most of it.
