Needing Help

Jul 25, 2016 8:27 PM

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2010. This has been nothing but a roll coaster if different things. Over the years my ability to walk hasn't gotten worse over time. Thinking it's my fibromyalgia and talking pills after pills and shots in my knees over and over nothing worked so I gave up in 2012 stopped taking meds and just stopped going and dealt with the pain. So in 2015 the pain started to get unbearable with my new job with lifting, climbing, twisting and bending . My ability to walk had gotten worse with more bad days then good. I started taking the meds again for my fibromyalgia again, but it took care of the pain but I was still unable to walk comfortably. It made it way from my hips to my ankles. The dr said it was sciatic so I got a Mri come to find out I had 4 prolapsed disc in my back. So as I'm waiting on the shots for my back I take a EMG to test the nerves in my legs because th er you started going numb. Nothing wrong with my upper legs.but I have neuropathy in my lower legs I'm on pain killer 3 times a day in which do nothing for me and I still walk like a old lady and now I have morning tremors not sure what's going on told my Dr she said we will Discuss it on next appt.

Sending happy thoughts & gentle hugs. My neuropathy is helped with gabapentin. I am starting to study Reiki, and if you'd like, we can chat about how it might help. Let me know if you'd like more info. Keeps me outta trouble LOL

If the Painkillers are not working then you should discuss coming off them and try something different, currently you're just taking The pills and probably getting tremors as a side effect (possible).

Welcome to our community family Gizmosmom! I'm sorry to hear of your battle against fibro and the spine issues. I agree with Jahmac, that if the pain meds aren't working it's time to try something else. We are all here for each other. We may have different diagnoses (dx), but we all understand chronic pain. We understand better than many family & friends do.

Let me share my common issues (with you). I have neuropathies in my hands & feet as a combined result from spinal issues, fibromyalgia, sjogrens, & hypothyroidism. According to my rheumy & endocrinology docs, all of these issues can cause neuropathy. I've been taking a very low dose (200-300 mg/day) of gabapentin for about 2 years and it has helped reduce some of the neuropathy symptoms. I also have pain & swelling in my legs as a result of a vascular issue in my pelvis, pelvic congestion syndrome-PCS. Btw, this also causes neuropathy type tingling and pain in my feet. Except for wearing compression stockings and taking a baby aspirin to prevent blood clots, there's not much else to do but rest with my feet elevated. I had to stop working in 2010, and I'm no longer able to even shop but myself. I'm in the process of trying to exercise & stretch daily, to maintain mobility & strength, and lose weight. The weight gain (60+ lb in 6 yr) isn't good for my spine, swelling legs, or joints. Doing short, slow treadmill walking (15-20 min) is helping. Of course that will come to a temporary halt in 2 weeks; have cervical disc fusion (3rd time). I'm hoping it will relieve a lot of neck, shoulder, & arm pain.

I will be praying for you, that the back injx work to give you relief. Some physical therapy would possibly help you also. I've just finished my third series of PT, and it's helped me regain some lost balance ability. Hugs love & prayers as you find your best methods for coping! 🙂💕🙏🌸

Omg gizmos mom I feel your pain. I have 2 bulging discs c5 and c7 also have early degenerative damage on my lower spine can't remember exactly where but it's near pelvis area of the spine. It hurts like hell I have had 2 rounds of injections on spine the 1st lot was great no pain for a full 3 months then I had 2nd lot and didn't work at all I was gutted! I am now waiting for some hydrotherapy to try and get some relief..this is done via referral by my Dr. Have you tried swimming or just floating to get pain relief or maybe you could try a soak in hot bath with 2 to 3 cup fulls of Epsom salts.

Thanks everyone that replied my Dr put me on a pain patch yesterday along with my other pain pills so far so good. Still hard to walk though but it's more stiffness then pain. Have a appointment with primary in a couple of weeks we will see what she can do.
