Nerve testing was today!

Mar 04, 2016 6:20 PM

I went for my nerve conduction testing as well as an EMG. The neurologist said I certainly have some small nerve neuropathy happening. He said I likely pinch my ulnar nerve and that's why I lose the feeling and get the burning pain in my wrists. The small nerve neuropathy can be caused by gluten or glucose intolerance (which would indicate early onset diabetes). He is going to send my family Dr some more tests that he would like me to do to see those. I was tested for gluten intolerance a couple years ago and it was negative. He said it can develop as we age. He did mention that he is concerned about early onset diabetes as I failed the 1 hr glucose test when I was pregnant with my first 4 years ago. He was a very nice neurologist. I told him I always worry that it's in my head and he said "No, you have some very real symptoms". My husband was in the room for that too :) He is always supportive but I think it helped him hearing that.

I'm glad to hear you've been taken seriously and that further tests have been ordered. Brownie points to your husband for being supportive, too! Why is it we always fear that it's all in our head? I mean, who would sit around thinking, 'You know what sounds fun today? Let's pretend we're in pain, and then let's keep that imaginary pain going for years on end! Fun times!'? Even if that happened, could you imagine the amount of effort that would have to go into maintaining that? I don't know about you, but managing my pain takes almost every ounce of effort I have. I think we need to stop listening to those messages that tell us if our injuries aren't visible to others they don't exist!

Well said :) I find I'm exhausted as well from managing my pain. I usually sleep 9-10 hours a night (when I don't get woken up from pain or numbness) and still wake up exhausted.

Dlwc58, HURRAY!!! You made me laugh out loud while reading your post. You are so very right. I love it!!
CDNgirl... I wish I could get that much sleep. I would not know what to do with myself!!

Sleeping has never been my problem. It's the energy levels during the day. I once read about da Vinci naps and wondering if I should try them.
