Nervous Doctor appoint

Mar 18, 2019 10:35 PM

Hi I feel like my doctor going to tell me that there is nothing wrong with my MRI for my back and sciatic pain. He might say it is all in my head. I see him in a few weeks, the Steriod he gave me did not help. How did you guys get you doctor to listen to you about your pain is serious. Iv kind been avoiding seem him for couple month. But finally decide to get the result. I'm worried he might just dismiss me or give me more drugs which I do not want. I want theropy and natural treatment.

Hi Molly. There are alternative treatments out there which can be used in conjunction with painkillers and physical therapy.

Even if your mri is normal your pain should not be dismissed. After all as physicians we treat the patient not the results.

Consider chiropractic and acupuncture.
Iโ€™d keep a strict pain diary
Also activity diary

To show how serious you are about this.
Often the hardest thing to treat is a normal scan. I know you might not believe me but itโ€™s often better to get a normal scan than an abnormal one.

Best wishes.

Hey Molly, just because there isn't a major issue screaming out "it's my fault", your pain is real. Sometimes it takes seeing more than one (or even 2) doctors to identify the cause(s). So just because you may not have something show up doesn't mean it's in your head. Go to your appointment and let them know you want to treat less invasively if possible.

I know from experience with multiple diagnosed issues all over my body: a mass that grew 2 years, thyroid issues dismissed by 2 doctors, multiple autoimmune issues, fibromyalgia, and spine/joint problems. One of the worst things anyone can do is to not continue pressing for answers. Because each time you avoid going the doctors assume "it must not be that serious or they'd have seen us more often." The same holds true for insurance companies; they end up making us jump through all the hoops again.

Personally I have spinal pain from top to bottom, and have for over 28 years. I had 2 seperate cervical fusions in the 90s that worked wonderfully. Then I had additional cervical fusions in 2016 & 2017, and neither had healed (pseudoarthrosis), meaning that surgeon was to open me up and do everything from C2-T3, only what he's described doing sounds so bizarre & radical I'm not willing to go through it. I have DDD, OA, spinal stenosis, radiculopathy, the pseudoarthrosis, disc bulging & compressions & tears, facet issues, and calcium deposits inside the spinal canal (just in my neck & upper thoracic region). I also have milder issues in the T10-12 & L1-S2 regions, and the lumbar-sacral area causes as much pain if not more than my neck, but those issues are not anything that can be helped; predominantly OA & DDD. Heat is my OA's best friend, and so is staying as mobile (stretches & moving around hourly at a minimum) as possible. Sending you hugs love & prayers you won't have any major problems and that therapy and more treatments will be very helpful! ๐Ÿ™‚โค๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒผ

I know how frustrating it is to not have Dr.s believe you. If you're looking for natural treatment, there are some yoga stretches you can do. My dad had an issue with his sciatica and he swears by them. One is down dog. He got it from a book called pain free

Welcome to you WeddingShore200! I had multiple injx in my spine during 2011-2012 and they helped. At the time I wasn't aware of my osteopenia or the risks of steroid injx. I can no longer get them on a regular basis for treatment because of the osteopenia.

@ sakram, I have a lot but there are others worse off than I am still. But thank you for your support! Today is a bad day for me, between my hip joint and my SI joint pain, which woke me at 3am.

Molly123, do you have any news to share; did you see the doc, did they agree to more natural treatment? I hope you're doing better!!

Love hugs & prayers for all to have a good day today!
