Neurologist Visit

Oct 15, 2015 7:48 PM

Went to the neurologist today to get a confirmation on the orthopedic surgeons diagnosis of CRPS/RSD. He confirmed that it is CRPS and is weaning me off of my anti-depressants and putting me on Cymbalta starting in a couple weeks after the other meds are out of my system. I have never taken Cymbalta, and am wondering what I can maybe expect from it. At this point I am willing to try just about anything, the pain in my leg, especially my knee area is really bad and almost unbearable.

Hey lostmom,
I have been taking cymbalta for 3years now. I find it good.......just don't ever try To go cold turkey and throw them down..... ( very dangerous). They are expensive as hell !!!! Right now I am on max dose and it still doesn't take all the pain away( or it didn't for me anyway) I wish you the best of luck

Lostmom, I was on cymbalta about 9 months. Typical for me I had adverse reactions of increased pain and suicidal ideations. I have a huge list of allergies to pain and psychiatric drugs. But my doc took me over way too quickly and I honestly almost lost it. Be careful. And good luck! 🙏🌼

You really should do some research first :-)

Thanks for your advice, Aunnie and FlappysLady81, I will research and check everything out.

Lostmom, I was put in Cymbalta and it not only did nothing for my pain, but it also caused worsening depression to the point of feeling suicidal. I had to come off of it. I have since been on Zoloft for the depression and Ativan for anxiety. That seems to help the mental issues (minus the "Fog") but the pain remains almost a constant 8. Even the meds I'm on now (Morphine and Oxycodone), I only get the edge off and get down to maybe a 7. It's hard to find a balance. I also have CRPS/RSD along with fibromyalgia and a dozen other things that cause pain. I hope that it works for you. Everyone is different so go at it with a positive attitude and all should go well. {{{{Hugs}}}} and prayers. 🌻🙏🏻

I had the same reaction to it that alwayzinpain did. Made me more suicidal then i am now. It can be really hard to find one that doesn't have too many side effects but this is one of the worst ones in my experience. I would research them and watch out for any that increase your suicidal thoughts or create them. I wish you all the luck with it. Xx

Thank you all for your advice. I have never been suicidal, so if I start having that problem I will hopefully realize it right away. I can't take most prescription pain meds because I am allergic to most of them, so I am really hoping that the Cymbalta will work. Thank you all again. This site is so informative and helpful, I am glad I found it! You all are great!
