Neuropathy..... Its everywhere!!!

May 25, 2017 11:48 PM

Well I saw my pain management doctor.

We did a Nerve Conductive Test. It verified I have diabetic neuropathy in my feet spreading up my legs now.

What we didn't know is I have neuropathy coming down from my lower back down my legs. (most likely sciatica). My pain management doctor was surprised by all of this as was I. He was very concerned about it all and was telling me if it's getting worst to let him know and we will start to change up my pain medication.

Wow!!! A pain management doctor admitting to a patient there's pain and give you more meds or stronger ones?!?! Cool!!! 😀😀😀

I mean not that I have all of this but that I have a doctor ready to help!!! I have had neuropathy on my left thigh since my teen years from a screwed up surgery. I have it on the left side of my face from a car wreck buy hitting my face against a metal frame.

Its like taking over my whole body now!!! It's getting scarry and really need to buckle down and figure things out. I may have it in my neck as well. We're testing that in a few months at the next visit.

So.... On to my question... Anybody have ways to help slowdown and/or alleviate neuropathy pain? (side note: when diagnost with JRA at 15 I was on Rx Motrin {it was controlled back then} I was taking up to 1600 mg to help with the pain after 7 years on it because I became so acclimated to it so fast. So it dosnt work on me any more...as well as a few others but I see "take Motrin 800" a lot of places)

Thanks so much.... Blessings to all. And ((((gentle hugs))))

Do you take Gabapentin or Lyrica for it?

May 26, 2017 9:27 PM

I'm on Lyrica. It's working some what. It's helping my fibro stay in check but not toching the neuropathy. We keep upping the dose. I hate the side effects and the weight gain its giving me.

I tried gabapentin all the way up to the highest doses. Never felt a thing from it.

Try them together? I take both. Lyrica does not help the neuropathy like the neurontin. I have terrible itching & pins & needles & burning legs & feet without neurontin.

May 27, 2017 4:04 PM

But the lyrics takes away a lot of the all over achy from fibro.

May 28, 2017 12:28 AM

Yes the Lyrica is working great for fibro for me. I did a med check on drugs.com with all my meds I take. Adding neurontion is dangerous for me. Had a lot of major drug interations for me.

In researching I found out Lyrica dose not help diabities neuropothy as it claims. There shows a lot of promise with the drug called venlafaxine. When I tried that drug with what I take I had even more major drug interactions. Some even indicating that could cause death.

I'm stumped, I take Gabapentin for my nuerpathy pain in my feet caused by my Sjogrens Syndrome, it does wonders for me... I'm sorry it doesn't help you.... All I can do is pray that they find something that helps.

May 28, 2017 9:49 AM

Thank you. I'm searching all over the web for ideas and trying them against what I take. I haven't found anything yet that is safe.... Or that I can afford if Medicare dose not pay for. (some are $165 a month!!)

May 28, 2017 9:55 AM

That's alot For one medication! My pain management doctor changed my pain medications on Friday, but I have my reservations about the new medication that he put me on... The last time I was giving this certain medication I slept for almost 2 days! So I can understand your problem because this new one has some interactions with medications I take now... He prescribed me Morphine

May 28, 2017 11:48 AM

Oh wow. Do you use a med interaction app?

May 28, 2017 3:02 PM

I look up the need and then went and inputted my meds that I take now to see if if there was to be any interactions

May 28, 2017 5:53 PM

Thank you so much for all your help. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hello I'm in a living Hell with diabetic neuropathy there is a really easy way to say and spell it out O U C H. A-O+CH = Ouch! And I have a better idea yyooouuuuchhh but there's a solution and I found really works its called surging that's if you can handle it! 1. If it is so bad you can't stand up just let yourself collapse 2. Hold to the effected leg really tight 3. Force pain with a jolt or tap with firm pressure 2. When the worst has passed stand and see how things are. I do this when I must and my step father does this too. I didn't understand until my pain has gone through the roof and I'd end up going to the moon in pain LOL! None of us needs that rubbish that pain causes! Here's another thing 3 times daily with obscene and corny sounding trick I learned on another one of my clever apps on my Android smartphone which you stroke up and "tickle" your legs and if you have diabetic neuropathy in arms stroke them the way for 3 minutes each 3 times daily I've done it it's worth something you should too as for me it's too much to do so give those 2 methods a try but surging is only for when you are too far from your phone or your couch, recliner, where your favourite seat in the house is but by all costs stay off the stairs while surging remember surging is used only in emergency situations... Period!!! But if you can't walk, then fallow the surging instructions I gave you! Take it from me surging is a lifesaver! It has stopped me from committing suicide and really saved my life! If it weren't surging I wouldn't be here sharing this with you!!!😇😎😇😎😇😎😇😎🌈🌈🌈🌈

Overcomer, I have had non diabetic neuropathy for 8 mos. now, it is aweful and very painful especially in my feet and toes (I walk like a toddler) mine however is due to MTHFR gene mutation. I am on gabapentin, does not help with pain but does help on twitching. My neurologist put me on Metanx for the nerve damage, it is for diabetic neuropathy- time is key with it, I assume. Other than those two I don't or can find any relief at all, I do sleep with ice packs under my feet every night just to fall asleep bc of pain and burning. Maybe you can look into metanx and see if it's something for you it is a prescription only,
food based. Hope you can figure what helps you (please share if do) much luck!

Idea #1 drink some ginger tea, Warning: it's spicy so add a sweetener of choice.#2 if that doesn't work WARNING: Causes bad breath. Eat a fresh clove of garlic if that doesn't work #3 got potatoes? If so Got a blender? Perfect your prepared put a potato a cut it then put 4 cups of water with a 2 tbs salt blend it up into a smooth liquid then get 2 tall kitchen trash bags line 2 large pots and put the potato water into each large pot RE: Make sure your feet fit comfortably in each pot decide which pot is best then use it put the potato water into the pot then put luke warm water and soak your feet in the vodka you can use the vodka up to as much as you like just keep it as fresh as long as possible without going bad then relief is on way, and you're reversing neuropathy at the same time! Take it from me I've done it! And my neuropathy is reversing or staying the during my neurologist visits and I swear by it! Give 45 minute potato foot baths a try. If you can buy a bucket for Lowe's or Home Depot which they are4 bucks buy one for foot baths that would be your armor against neuropathy issues! Do this you'll get relief. #4 if that doesn't work the last resort is the TENS unit they are the best in Jesus name AMEN! Ahhh have you tried a TENS unit Ahhh you'll feel it trust me thanks!😎
