New to Constant Pain, unknown issues, minimum relief

Nov 16, 2015 9:38 PM

Ok so, I'm a severe Asthmatic. I was basically healthy until five years ago when I got really bad for no reason.

The running idea is that maybe sarcordosis, we're still trying to verify.

But, in the process I have become a steroid dependent asthmatic. The constant steroids have affected my joints, before , it was just when I tapered, now it's all the time.

I'm in pain , my joints hurt all the time.... But I am immune to most pain meds... I mean like oxy, morphine, barley works when the pain is really bad....

It's so frustrating...

Some times it's Iike I can't breathe and I'm in pain....

I'm looking for something I haven't tried or thought of ....

One, have you tried CBD oil? I use it and even though it doesn't take away all the pain, it helps with the anxiety I feel first then the pain starts to ebb away. I don't know where you live but I'm in Indiana, medical marijuana is illegal but CBD oil is legal and can be gotten without a script. I am also on Opana, it wasn't working at first, but then I found out it is a fat soluble drug so I started taking it with fish oil. That's all it took to make it work. Good luck Sweetie, I am praying for you

I'm in CT. Im at the beginning so hopefully I can be connected with a pain management person... I think it will help...

Because it's new, no one is fully clear on what's going on...

But, it's so frustrating...

Been doing this for 15 years, find a good Doc that's key. Sometimes you have to sort thru a bunch of not so great ones until you find one that is a good fit for you, but they are out there. Don't allow yourself to be condescended to, and if your gut says "no way" listen to it no matter how many people say he or she is "the best". This is a safe place to vent, ask for help, cry, scream, whatever. The people here really care and get it because they hurt too. I'm glad your here 🙂

Welcome to our community family Oneatatime! I too have asthma, since 2001. Last summer I became very short of breath and could no longer exercise or barely shop. I was seeing a pulmonary doc and cardiologist, and they found mitral regurgitation but not much else. The pulmonologist stopped my allergy shots and i improved some. Then i went to an actual asthma & allergy specialist. He read the allergy test results (done by the pulmonologist allergy tech), and flipped out. He said i wasn't allergic to all the things they were giving me shots for, but i was sensitive to them. He took over my asthma meds. He had to completely change my meds to stronger ones. I'm on steroids and have been since 2001. I'm getting back where I can exercise a little on the treadmill. If you aren't under an allergy & asthma specialist, get one. They're so much better than the pulmonologist.

I was dx with hypothyroidism & sjogrens this year, fibromyalgia in 2012, and I have OA, DDD and many other issues. I'm beginning to get joint issues from the OA. I've found crafter's gloves (fingertips missing) are helpful in cold seasons. If I get cold all my body hurts, joints and muscles. I wear long sleeves sometimes in the summer, especially in a flare.

Besides Plaquenil, gabapentin, Tylenol Arthritis, and Tramadol, I use asthma, thyroid, and migraine meds. But I also take vitamins B12, D3, Folate (genetic malabsorption issue), calcium, magnesium, and iron. I'm allergic to way too many pain meds.

I oppose you settle in and get a lot of helpful suggestions. You're in my prayers! 🙏🌼

Yes. I have heard a lot about fish oil, unfortunately I'm deathly allergic to fish 😂😂😂 so I haven't tired it..

Before I got sick the only med besides my inhaler I took was Advil. I was so amazed that so many didn't work for me...I mean, sometimes it was like taking nothing.

It's always crazy, because I think people have whole addictions to the effects of these meds and I don't even get relief.

Pain, has become the hardest part now. Not being able to breathe is difficult but you can work with it a little. But, when you're in pain... You're just in pain.. It's hard to think or do anything else... And I'm so used to doing

All of this takes some adjusting

CBD oil is medical marijuana. There's no real good in smoking it since it doesn't get you high. I get it in a syringe then fill up capsules and put it in a separate prescription pill container with a green star on the label.

I was vaporizing it but my daughter asked if I would stop. I NEVER vaped in front of her. It has no smell. I would use it for breakthrough pain.

So I still take the pill & use my hot tub or back massage equipment for acute pain.

Of course, I'm only sharing my legal experiences.

Good luck.
