I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for 8 years. Been taking Ultram 50mg 4x per day the whole time. My dr has prescribed everything from Cymbalta to Lyrica. Cymbalta was BAD for me. Lyrica worked well, but my insurance doesn't cover it, so she prescribed Neurontin/Gabapentin 300mg 3x/day. I stepped up to the 3x/day & it helped the pain a lot! But, I am an elementary music teacher & while teaching I would totally forget what I was saying mid-sentence. So, she switched to 100mg in the morning & lunch, then 300mg at night. I HATE all this pain, fatigue, etc.. Have 4 children (2yr old boy, 4 ur old girl, 14 & 16 yr old stepsons) & I can get "up" enough to teach, but when I get home I don't feel like doing anything but sleep. I'm missing out on my children's life. Years ago, I used to smoke marijuana and I felt a lot better. I slept better, didn't have as much pain, and didn't experience the loss of appetite that I have with all these pills. But, it's illegal & I can't risk my career & financial support for my family.
That's a summary of me & fibro. Any ideas about non-pharmaceutical treatments for fibro? I'm tired of all the pills.

Also, my PCP recommended I try yoga. Like easy beginners yoga.
Have any of y'all done that to help with the muscular pain?

Hi woodrumma, I have exactly the same experience on a daily basis. I have had to stop working because of it. I am now in a situation where I have to sell my house. Anyway, I have recently started mixing up yoga and callenetics. It's difficult at first but I notice the difference within a few days, especially when I don't do it. Even if only a few moves and maybe 5-10 min a day makes a huge difference. I am also trying to do mindfulness, hopefully that will help too during the day etc. I'm here if you ever need to chat. It's difficult to find someone who really understands

Welcome Woodrumma, my doc had me on the same dosage of Gabapentin 300mgx3 TID. I now take Cymbalta 120 mg. as Well as a number of other medications. Still have chronic pain. I thought there was something wrong with me that my medication didn't work to eliminate my pain. Since being on here I see it is a common problem. So I am not a problem child. Oh I do not have Fibromyalgia I have PMR and Myositis along with a laundry list of other diagnosis. Like you once I get home in the evening you can stick a fork in me because I am done. By Friday I am in for the weekend. I also can not get my swelling under control. That's awful at times too. Kitkat I am sorry that you have to sell your home. Are you going to move in with someone who will help care for you? The more I read the post on here the more nervous I get. I will most likely be without insurance next year when my son turns 18. I need to try to figure this out now. What is "mindfulness "?

Welcome Woodrumma81! I'm sorry you're having to deal with this, especially with young children. Thankfully my fibro, sjogrens, hypothyroidism, & multiple other issues didn't start until we were empty nesters. I'm 54 now and stopped working in 2010 supposedly to recuperate from massive surgery, but the surgery was complicated (5 in 1) and just kept having new problems.

So here I am. I so wish I could work and enjoy my old life, but that's not going to happen. I've learned to pace myself between all activities. And if planning to do something special I rest well before and after. I listen to any signal my body gives me, and I try not to push beyond my limits. It's taken time to gain these skills of hearing my body. And I've gained good advice from others here too. I pray you will be able to find ways to be able to reserve energy and time for your family. Maybe explain to them how hard it is working, and saving the weekends for special time for your children. It's not the quantity of time, but the quality of time you give to children that really counts. Hugs, love, & prayers! 🙂💕🙏🌼

Hello Woodrumma81, nice to text u. I cannot imagine how tired u must be after a day, week, month with so many children & fibro. I have not been tested for fibro. I am at a point where I am having difficulty walking. I have DDD & severe nerve pain, scoliosis. I have extreme fatigue & pain if I do too much, much like u. I think gentle yoga & deep breathing might help u when u get home. On the days u feel better double what u cook & put one in the freezer. This can make it easier on u when get home from school. I have found that Melaleuca cream can help my joint ache ( someone here suggested it. I have used a TENs unit in the past. I take Lyrica & antidepressants & arthritis medication in an attempt to ease my pain. I believe that u will find some helpful suggestions here, as well as some understanding friends.

Hi my sister keeper. Thank you for your kind thoughts. Mindfulness is being aware of everything on a moment to moment situation. It is taking Stock of the positives around you. It is a part of meditation or something before that.
I'm also looking into taking tumeric on a daily basis. My aunties swears by that and rosehip if that helps

Thank you all for welcoming me & your suggestions!
It's nice to know that I'm not alone in the symptoms that we experience.

Woodrumm, silly questions but they might help you. Do you live in the U.S, and how many people live in your family?
