Hi everyone. I just thought I'd drop a note to introduce myself. My name is Andi and I'm a single mom. Within the last 2 years I have been diagnosed with RA, fibro, neuropathy, and lymphocytic colitis. Past diagnosis are severe depression and hypothyroidism. I'm in the process of applying for disability and have my hearing in February. Any advice on dealing with the pain and applying for disability?
Welcome to the community Andi. I'm sorry for your chronic pain. Does heat help? Soak in hot tub with 1-2 cups Epsom salt. Try heating pad or electric blanket. TENS unit helps some people. Hope this helps.
Hi my name is Mirage and welcome! I agree with animallover2. In general keeping as warm as you can does help the pain for most people. Hot baths are good and i have only tried an Epsom salt bath once, but it is good for all sorts of pain. I also use essential oils and this muscle relief gel that I get from shopsalus.com. everything on their site is natural and no added chemicals. The muscle relief gel is particularly good for arthritis from what I've heard from other people who use it. I use it for nerve pain. I recommend applying it generously meaning a thick layer and just letting it soak into your skin.
drewbie: Is your hearing in front of the judge? Do you have an attorney or you doing it alone? Been there. Won my hearing on my own when people(doctors, judges, etc..) felt like chronic pain is a joke.
I am new to this form: I am 56 and have chonic pain for about 15 years. The last two years have been pretty unbearable. I am still working, but I am getting pretty close to going on disability. I am fighting doing that for two reasons I need to work as long as I can for a pension and the other reason is for the unknown. How do you survive on less money. Scares the hell out of me. My true blessing is I have the best wife who put up with me. With her I would give up in a heart beat. Your true enemy in the pain fight is depression. I try not to let it get to me for the most part, but it creeps in every now and then. I have pretty much tried everything, except I have been asking for a pain specialist, but none of them will send me. It frickin frustrating. Oh well enough whining.
Hi, I’m Megan and new to this app today. I’m in Australia. I just wanted to add that where heat can help, a lot of pain is caused by inflammation, so icing can be very helpful too..sometimes I alternate..but after lying on a couch for a year, and marked by hot water bottles..even tho my body felt it needed heat, I was very appreciative when someone pointed out that icing was integral. It’s hEloped me the last few years. And today. So glad I found this app today!
